"Thanks for doing this Shawn" Lovie said while we walked to the park bench to sit down.
She had finally contacted me about meeting Aimee two nights ago. I decided to make everybody comfortable so we just met at the park. Aimee really took a liking to Lovie immediately, which I'm glad for. Lovie is the closest relation, outside of me, Aimee has to her mother and I want to make sure she is always remembered.
I waved her off. "You know it's no problem, you are always welcomed in her life. You are her godmother" I chuckled.
Lovie smirked. "You know I've been meaning to find out where you guys were, but I was a little scared." She confessed.
"Why?" I questioned with a frown on my face.
"Because Rose was my best friend, I was good friends with you, and I was Aimee's god mother. When everything happened with Rose, instead of me fulfilling my godmother duties, I just bailed." She stated.
"Everybody handles death different Lovie. You and Rose were attached at the hip, she was your closest friend, damn near your sister."
"You know 'till this day it hurts so bad." She said while her eyes welled up with tears. "I know she would have been such a good mom. It hurts that she wasn't given the opportunity to raise her daughter, but I know for a fact she is watching over all of us."
"I think about that everyday to keep me going for Aimee. Don't beat yourself up about how you initially handled the situation. Like I said people handle things different from others and I could never punish you for taking the time to make sure you are mentally & emotionally okay. You weren't their before but you are here now, and that's all that matters." I said.
Lovie smiled at me before pulling me in for a hug. "Thank you so much Shawn. You are a great man, and I'm glad Rose got to experience someone like you in her life." She said once she pulled away from the hug.
"That means a lot, thank you!" I smiled at her. "So what's been going on in your life?" I questioned, changing the topic.
"I actually moved down to Austin, Texas for a little while before moving back up here. I do hair now, I actually just opened up my own shop not too far from the restaurant I bumped into you and your girlfriend at." She answered.
"You always had a niche for doing hair, I'm proud of you!" I informed her. "I gotta let Bey know, she is always struggling to find somebody to do her hair." We laughed.
"Please do the more clients the merrier." Lovie laughed. "How'd you two meet?" She questioned.
"Well you know I told you we were homeless for a while, and one day I was sleeping outside by her building, and she heard Aimee crying. That same night she invited us to stay with her, and the rest is history." I told her the story.
"That is beautiful. She seems really nice, and like she has the biggest heart." Lovie said.
"She does. I really don't know where I would be without that woman. And she is the best mom to Aimee. Sometimes I can't help but think that Rose sent her to us." I said.
