"Ramo, Ramo.... its getting so late, wake up love"..He heard that sweet voice of his wife, Sibel, calling his name hastily , telling her to get up because she always used to make breakfast and then get angry if he was late, he smiled before he fully opened his eyes and stretched his arm to hold her next to him, but the bed was empty..He quickly got up..
So it was a dream ...again..
She was not here, it had been one year since she left but she still was everywhere.
He could hear her cooking & singing in the kitchen, he could smell her in the room , her hair brush still was there on the table, her half empty perfume bottle was also in its place , still.
The cupboard was full of her clothes, everything was where she left her, he never allowed anyone to clean the room or touch her belongings. This was all he had left of her.
Some days when he missed her and it became difficult to live, he would take her clothes out, spread them on the bed and spend hours just staring at them.
The little note she left "i will be late tonight, please eat before you go to sleep" was still there, he would touch it because it was the last thing she touched before she left that house for the last time..
He did not move anything, how could he ? He bought this house for her, this is where they both started their married life.. it was just bricks and walls without her.
He shed a little tear, it had almost become a ritual for him to wake up dreaming of his gul, then not finding her anywhere and realizing that she was not there.. she was though, she was everywhere. In that bed, in that chair, she was in every corner of that house, every inch of that house had her name written all over it, he could hear her voice echoing from ever room of that house , where was she not ??? she was everywhere, there was no escape from her. He DID NOT want an escape from her !
He couldn't even face to get rid of her things, how could he face to get rid of "her"..
He got out of bed and went over to the dressing table, the hair brush still had a few strands of her hair, he gently touched it as if he was stroking her hair, picked up her perfume and smelled it as he closed his eyes and took a deep breath, to feel her around, to feel her presence.. he carefully put the bottle back and went towards the windows to open the curtains.
The sun was shining, he could see his little niece riding a bike in that luscious garden by the pool, he smiled briefly before he started to get ready..
His brother, Hassan & his wife Affet were at the table waiting for him, as he walked towards the table he heard them talking about something but they stopped as soon as they saw him, "you can continue Abi" he said as he sat at the table. He knew what they were talking about, probably about the person he was going to meet today...
Affet offered him a plate and as he started to get some food his face changed as he saw a vase on the side table with red roses in it " what's this .. "i said what are these ??" He paused for a moment,he was clearly angry but had to stop for a minute to control his harsh tone "What are this doing here ?! Did i not tell you that 'these' are not allowed here ? Get rid of them, now" he point towards the flowers.
" yeah.... i am so sorry.. Fatos picked these Gu.."
"Yenge" he interrupted so she could not complete the word
" Ramo i mean "these" are from the garden. Ramo, i am sorry , okay wait.. i will remove them. I will take these away" his sister in law said as she took the vase with red roses away in the kitchen.
"Ramo, Fatos brought these, i know brother, i know.. i get it, don't ruin your mood, here eat your breakfast that Affet made , hadi hadi" Hassan said as he struggled to move his wheelchair a bit...
He only had a few sips of tea before he left the table , picked up his coat and went towards the front of the house where his driver & car were waiting for him..
"Uncle...." little Fatos ran towards him , he bent on his knees to give her a hug "Fatos'im, how is my baby today ?" He smiled. It was the first time he smiled like this in days .. or maybe weeks.. "are you going to see Sibel yenge ?" little Fatos asked.. his face changed once again, he clenched his jaw but he quickly composed himself to say "Yok canim, There is no Yenge anymore.. go play with Affet Yenge, she will make you nice breakfast so you can grow big and look after uncle Ramo.. tamam?" He touched her cheeks and told her to go inside the house.
He got up, put his coat on and waved at the driver to get the car..
Nobody in that house was allowed to bring any roses, not even little Fatos. He had banned roses from the house completely. They were not even allowed to say the word Gul.
A delicate flower had become a sharp knife for him,
he could no longer feel the softness of a rose, all he could feel was thorns.
Roses pierced his heart, how could they not ? It was "her" .. it was a message that she was not there.
Guls were not beautiful for him anymore, they were nothing but painful memories. He hated Guls with all his heart, or so he said.
A red rose was an ugly reminder , nothing more.
As he walked towards the car , he saw the gardener watering the plants , his feet stopped without him even trying as he saw that plant "Amca, Amca" he yelled at the gardener who came forward like an obeying little child " THROW AWAY THIS PLANT"
The gardener looked a bit puzzled , he pointed towards the planter and asked "These,?" He had questions in his eyes.
"Yes these, i said throw away this plant, now"The gardener waved at his helper who came and they lifted the plant to ask as if "what to do with it"
Ramo shrugged his shoulders and replied "didn't i say throw it ? So take it outside and throw it. I don't want this plant in my house again" he said as he started to walk towards the car, he didn't stop or look at them or the plant after that...
