Chapter 1: His Story

"Wonderland?"

"Yes, that was what they called it."

Bright eyes of many colors stared at the senile man who layed on an ordinary white hospital bed with anticipation and excitement. The children no less than 10 years old but no more than 15 waited patiently for the older man to tell his adventures as some sat on the edge of the white hosiptal bed, holding his wrinkled and fragile hand with care. Others found empty space on the smooth, white tiles. They sat still and waited for the elder's words.

"Please grandpa, tell us more." Marrieta, one of the youngest children in the group, urged the man. A stray of deep brown curl fell on her face, casting an annoying shadow over her hazel eyes.

"Yes grandpa, tell us more of your story!" The other children agreed in unison. They had waited several months to hear about his wicked take in fictional worlds.

The man laughed lightly, coughing and clearing his throat every so often. The exhaustion can be clearly seen on his pale and tired face.

" Can't you see grandpa is sick?" Andrew yelled, ceasing the voices of his fellow cousins. Even Andrew, however, also wanted to hear more about wonderland. He too wished to discover more about the world besides Earth.

The old man cleared his throat and finally spoke in a very rash voice, but spoke nonetheless.

"My grandchildren, though we are not related by blood, I always find myself cherishing all of you. "The man gave a slight smile before continuing his speech of acknowledgement.

" The day we will part will come soon, but before I say good -bye, I will tell you my stories. The adventures and risks, the friends and family I have made during my journey. "

The senior turned his head slowly, and drifted towards the windows. His lips moved in small and slow motion as he spoke. His mind going somewhere very distant, departing all the children with him in another world.

They listened with eagerness and no one spoke a word, some even afraid to breath as he told his story.
