Chapter 4: Answers

I awoke to Jhope shaking me "hey, it's your turn to watch" I shook my head and mumbled "yeah yeah I know" I sat up rubbing my eyes I squinted at the window seeing Choa already awake. I stood up and stretched my arms out and yawned, I sat next to Choa staring out the window. 10 minutes passed, Jhope, Yuna and everyone else was fast asleep. Choa and I sat in silence, it wasn't an awkward silence but a peaceful one, the things Chiyo said to me kept replying in my mind, I was trying to make sense of everything as Choa had said, it didn't make sense and it was weird how could we all lose consciousness and then wake up? The men in the cloaks, Chiyo nothing made sense. She talked about a summoner that summoned these demons and placed them in rotting corpses, that was the only thing we knew. "We have to find her" Choa said and looked at me "Chiyo, we gotta find her, find out what's going on" I nodded, it was easier said then done, I had no idea where she ran off to or if she's even alive anymore. Choa leaned out against the glass to look at the sky which was as dark as I had went to bed, darker then night, not a star in the sky, the moon wasn't even visible she then looked at her phone's clock with a confused look on her face "What the... It says it's seven am right now" I grabbed my phone and checked it just to make sure her phone wasn't screwed up or the time was wrong or something, as she had said it was fourteen minutes after seven.

"What the hell are we going to do?" I said while rubbing my face. Choa looked at me with a face that said I don't know. I wanted to go and search for her but Choa said that I shouldn't go alone, that it was dangerous, I knew that but we both couldn't leave not until someone else was awake. I sat on the couch looking up at the ceiling, thoughts racing through my mind trying to piece this all together but I couldn't.
I glanced over at Choa leaning against the wall with one foot against it, arms crossed, head tilted back looking out the window. She looked stunningly beautiful, despite how dirty her clothes and how messy her hair looked. She turned her head and met my gaze but I glanced away. Would she think I was weird for staring at her? I couldn't help myself, she was drop dead gorgeous. She was also mysterious in a way, she never spoke unless she had to. It made me want to know her, get close to her. No stop it izzy, you're in a life threatening situation and all you can think about is a girl? My thoughts screamed inside my head. I sighed deeply admitting to myself that I liked her, I liked her a lot. You're setting yourself up for failure, there's no way in hell she'd like you back, you're a fucking girl for christ sakes !! I thought, no point in mopping around about it, I stood up and started searching the cupboards to see if there was anything edible, none of us have eaten anything for hours, everyone was probably starving but didn't say anything because they didn't wanna burden the others.

Thankfully I found some canned fruit, they had to be good?? Right??
Two cans said peaches and three of them said fruit cocktail. They looked big enough for all of us to have a decent amount. "Look at this" I said, Choa turned her back to the window and walked towards me, she took one of the cans to examine it. "Is it safe to eat?" I shook my head "don't know" "open it and find out" a voice over my shoulder said Choa and I jumped and screamed, everyone who was asleep moved at the sound of our loudness. "Jesus fucking Christ yano !!" I said in a harsh whisper, he smiled and chuckled, he took the can from choa and pulled out a pocket knife. He jabbed the knife on top of the can and slowly moved it around the edge like a can opener. It took him five minutes to rip open the lid. He put it close to his face and sniffed it. "It smells fine to me" he held it out for us to smell it, I took one peach slice and popped it in my mouth chewing it. "It tastes good" I said with my mouth full. Yano and Choa looked at each other, took a slice and put it in their mouths. We stood there in a few moments of silence except for the sound of our chewing.

"Oh right" I said in between chewing. "Me and Choa are gonna go and search for Chiyo, can you stay up and wait until we come back or until someone else wakes up?" I said after swallowing the mushy juicy peach slice. "Yeah come with me for a sec" he said while popping another slice in his mouth. We both followed him into the room next to the teachers lounge, which was basically a janitors closet, a large one. He grabbed out an axe and flashlight.
He handed me the axe and gave Choa the flashlight. "You need to protect yourselves, never know when you're gonna need it, good luck" he said holding the door open for us.
Choa turned on the flashlight and the light shone right in my face, I closed my eyes and covered my face with my arm. "Sorry.." She said turning off the flashlight. I nodded an it's okay to her and ushered her out the door.
Yano said his final goodbye and good luck to us before heading back into the teachers lounge. We started walking down the hall way in silence. She was so close to me I could feel her body heat, hear her breathing and I could smell a faint hint of perfume off her, it drove me crazy. I shook my head "stop it" I muttered under my breath, she looked at me "did you say something?" She asked, I shook my head and smiled "nope" we kept walking until we reached the front of the school and out onto the yard.
I looked back at the teacher lounge window and saw yano waving, he pressed himself against the glass and blew air which made his mouth expand. "What the fuck is wrong with him" I said, Choa laughed.
God even her laugh was beautiful, it sounded like harmonious melody that I could listen to forever, it melted in my ear, made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
