"Yep, this one's either going to be a pilot or a stuntman, er- person." Charlie declared rubbing your bulging stomach. You laughed at this, "OR a librarian or a teacher." you retorted, followed by a wink at your husband.
You and Charlie had been married for two years now and your first child is on the way. The little rascal, as you both lovingly decided to call it for now, was due in one week. You both didn't want to know the gender early, deciding that a surprise would make the moment more special.
Your tiny apartment was beginning to look like a war zone, scattered with torn open boxes, baby clothes, and blankets. But that was you and Charlie; chaotic (in a fun way).
"Can I get you anything my love?" Charlie asked staring his hazel eyes staring straight into yours. "I'm alright, I just need to sit down for a while." you replied, feeling slightly winded. "I shall clear a path for you!" he says in a pirate voice.
In an instant he is pretending to pull a sword from behind him as he pushes boxes and squeaky toys to the sides of your living room. He was such a goofball, but that's what made him more attractive, if he could even get more attractive at this point.
"Why thank you kind sir." you played along. However, when you bent down to take a seat in the plush chair, clear liquid splashed underneath you. Oh no.
"I think you spilled something from your- OH!" Charlie exclaimed. He froze for a second and then started running around the apartment grabbing various items and stuffing them into a book bag.
"Is this really happening right now?" you thought to yourself, but accidentally said aloud. "I think it's actually happening babe. I'll call the doctor!" he responded, tripping over nearly everything in sight.
Before you knew it, you were being wheeled into a hospital room with large windows and monitors all around. You were starting to get nervous and Charlie noticed. "Hey hey hey, y/n. It's going to be alright. You've been preparing for this for the last eight months. If anyone can do it, I know it's you." he reassured you, squeezing your hand and leaving a sweet kiss on it.
You took a couple deep breaths as you laid in the bed, doctors and nurses came in and out, but you couldn't focus on anything they were saying, only the sharp pain stemming from your belly.
Hours went by after they had confirmed you were definitely in labor and you were more annoyed than hurting now. "I'M GONNA BE A DAD!" Charlie kept yelling to everyone who came into the room.
"We know Charlie, we know." his parents joked. He had called all the soon-to-be grandparents and they made it to the hospital in record time. He grabbed a guitar to calm himself down and began strumming.
"Hey Charlie, can you play Jeremy's song?" you look over at him. He nods and begins playing "Ballerina", a song that their friend Jeremy wrote for his wife Carolynn.
Blue eyed Ballerina,
God only knows how much I need ya.
From day one, I knew you were the one
....
What's the point of sleep if it's not with you?
Lipstick on my cheek, lookin' like a tattoo.
As he finished the song, it was time to push. Everyone had to leave the room besides Charlie, he rushed over to your side and held your hand, "You got this." he placed a kiss on your sweaty forehead.
It took nearly everything within you to get to the finish line but when the doctor handed Charlie your child, all you could do was smile from ear to ear. "It's a boy!" he whispered, tears forming in his eyes. You go to reach for the baby when the doctor stops you.
"You're not done quite yet y/n. I'm going to need you to push like that one more time." she says. You and Charlie shoot bewildered stares at each other.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN AGAIN? WHAT'S WRONG?" you shout, obviously exhausted. "There's another baby to deliver, annnnddd PUSH!" she responds urgently.
When all is said and done, the doctor hands you yet another boy. You and Charlie were now parents to twin boys.
"But, we went to all the appointments, all the ultrasounds... they never mentioned twins?" you start, "And twins seems like something they would mention." Charlie chimes in.
"It looks like they just missed the second one, it's rare but twins can go undetected until right before they're due."
"I know it's early and incredibly shocking, but any name ideas?" she asks hopefully.
"I- Well, we had Dylan picked out for a boy but- I don't think this one looks like a Dylan, y/n." he admits and switches the babies carefully between you two.
"How about we each think of names and then we'll decide?" you suggest, rocking the small soul in your tired arms.
"Deal. I must go consult with the youngling." he walks over to the bench and studies the child.
Both of the babies are put into small cribs next to the bed as you drift off to sleep.
Charlie lets you sleep for a few hours before getting slightly impatient and strumming his guitar, which wakes you up. "Oof, sorry y/n." he sets it back down, "No, it's fine. C'mere." you gesture towards him. He sits on a stool at your bedside, "What's up baby mama?" he smirks, pushing the hair out of your face.
"I have a name idea." you weakly smile, "Let's hear it!" he smiles back. "It's Atlas Reggie Gillespie." you desperately await his reaction, "I love it. I have one too," he starts, "It's Luka Alex Gillespie." you smile and nod approvingly. "Nice touch using "Luka" instead of Luke." you say in a slightly teasing manner.
"You know I had to," he teases back, "but now, which is which? I'm almost positive they're identical and neither have birthmarks." he gets up and hovers over the sleeping infants.
"Easy. The one on the left is Atlas and the one on the right is Luka. Atlas has more hair." you state.
"That he does, my little Tarzan." he stops to look at you for second-name approval, "We're not naming him Tarzan." you shoot down.
Two days go by in the hospital, family and friends stop by to meet the two unexpected surprises and bring lots of gifts.
You each take a car seat with one baby each and marvel down at them one last time before leaving the room. "One pilot," Charlie starts, "And one librarian." you finish.
