"Cody, time for breakfast darling!"
I said.
Arranging the plates on the table.
"Have you gotten feedback from the company?"
Turning to Roger.
While Dishing out the food.
"Oh! Yeah! Someone already got the space, but, I'd drop my CV in other places. I know God will get me a job."
He said.
Eating his Macroni.
Roger loves Macroni.
He could sell all his property for a plate of Macroni.
His teeth were small and even and looked well cared for.
I smiled.
I had done a great job as a wife.
Indeed I was a home keeper.
I chuckled.
That was the only thing left in the house.
For breakfast.
Roger doesn't have a job yet.
The salary I earn from doing menial jobs isn't enough to provide our needs.
I motioned towards him.
"Yes darling, God is working behind the scene, he's gonna get you a good and decent job."
I said in a near whisper.
Patting him on the back. "Don't worry about me paying our bills and Cody's fees, that's why I married you. To be your backbone, to support you especially during hard times. God will supply all our needs."
He placed his head on my waist.
"I thank God for you, my dear."
He said.
With a shaky voice.
Tears rolling down his cheeks.
Cody rushed down the stairs.
In his pajamas.
He was not the get-up and change type.
Neither was he the early-to-rise type.
He would wake up at his own time.
I struggled with this all the time.
He had thick black hair and brown eyes. He looked like one of those anime characters.
He loves Cornflakes.
And oh! He was just thirteen! So outspoken, and dramatic.
Cody wasn't the quiet type, he would speak out whenever things are not done right.
He sees visions and hears things from the Lord.
His opinion mattered to us.
Roger quickly cleaned his eyes.
"Good morning Dad. Good morning Mum."
He said.
Reaching for a seat.
"Morning son, Roger said."
He had a smile on his face.
A smile that could lit up a dark room.
I could fill joy clouding the atmosphere.
"You look so handsome this morning Cody! Tell us your secret."
I chuckled.
Pouring a small pack of Cornflakes in his bowl.
Cody and Roger couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"But, I'm serious. I said caressing his cheeks. "My son is such a beauty to behold."
Roger was sitting on the right side of the table, close to me. While Cody was sitting on the left side beside Roger.
"We're not disputing that fact uhn".
He grinned at me.
"Well, I use mum's facial cleanser and acne remover every night, I mean every night."
He said.
Laughing uncontrollably.
As he raised his finger.
"You do what now Cody! Oh my God
!No wonder I keep looking for it every night. Oh my! Cody!"I said.
Pointing a finger at him.
My keen eyes were examining his face.
Cody managed to smother a laugh.
"Uhhhhhnmm, was just joking mum."
His eyes fixed on his cereal.
"Daaaaaaaah! I got you real good Cody! I knew you were joking!"
I said.
We all burst into laughter.
Just then.
A knock came on the door.
"Cody, go check who's at the door."
I said softly.
Cody stood up and opened the door.
I turned to Roger.
"Darling, I think you should try contacting Mr. Wigglesworth. He's a good man, you know."
Stuffing the last morsel of bread in my mouth.
"Oh yeah! I'd put a call through him once I'm done eating."
He said.
Rubbing his hand on mine.
We didn't notice when Cody was out of the house.
The door was opened.
And Cody wasn't there anymore.
I scrambled to my feet.
Pushed my seat backward.
Unfortunately, the bowl-filled with Macroni spilled over the ground.
I walked towards the door.
"Cody! Cody! Cody! Where are you!"
I wailed.
My heart began to race fast.
My hands were shaking uncontrollably.
"Where on earth could he have gone!"
I mumbled disparagingly.
As I paced the living room.
Roger joined me.
"Cody! Cody! Boy, where are you!"
He ran up the stairs.
Screaming at the top of his voice.
I ran out of the house.
"Cody! Cody! Cody!"
I ran to the backyard.
I didn't find him.
I ran towards the main road.
I didn't see a trace of Cody.
"Where are you, Cody!"
I cried out.
Falling to my knees.
