The Day of Love
It's cold. The wind is strong as it blows around me, whispering in my ear, taunting me. But I don't feel cold. I feel numb. Numb with the pain in my chest.
It's also February. February 14th to be exact, also known as the day of love.
I let out an exhausted sigh as I look around me, watching couples walking down Hyde Park, hand in hand. Every happy couple that I see makes my heart hurt even even more. I honestly don't know why I came here.
Actually that would be a lie. I know exactly why I am sitting here. After all, this the exact spot where I first met him.
*
I remember sitting here on the bench, three years ago. It was summer. The sun was shining brightly in the sky, the run rays hitting my face. The sky was clear, and the wind was refreshing. It was a beautiful day.
I remember sipping on my Vanilla Bean Frappuccino as I read The Fault in Our Stars. I remember being so engrossed with the book, my heart tugging with emotion as Hazel and Augustus went on their first date. And I remember being scared to death when he, a stranger, spoke up.
"The Fault in Our Stars, huh?" He asked.
Normally when I read a book, I pay zero attention to everything around me. My dorm mate would always have to scream at the top of her lungs to get my attention whenever I am reading a book. But with him, he just had to talk normally and he caught my full attention.
It was his voice. Definitely his voice. His voice sounded...so low and husky, so angelic. I loved the way his Cheshire accent flowed as the words rolled off of his tongue. It sounded so intriguing, so mesmerizing.
"Yeah, it's a great book." I replied back to him, talking another sip from the cold drink.
As I looked back at him, I noticed those beautiful, piercing, green eyes. I saw the way they sparkled under the sunlight, making his irises look so bright.
Then I saw him smile. His mouth curved up, his white teeth showing behind his pink lips, his dimples making an appearance. It was a beautiful smile.
"I don't see what's all the fuss about it. It's cliché and expected." He said in response, making my mouth drop and a scowl to form on my face.
"Did you even read the book?"
"No, but I've heard about it."
"Then that's clearly why you don't know what's the fuss about it. It is beautiful, it's a very beautifully written book."
"I'm just teasing." He said with a laugh, a laugh coming out of his lips.
I remember I looked at him with my eyes furrowed in a glare, trying not to be swooned by that beautiful laugh that just came out of his mouth.
"You never tease a girl about her favourite book. It's a golden rule." I said, taking another sip from my drink.
"I'm sorry." He chuckled again, his eyes looking into mine as he held up his hands in surrender. "I'm Harry." He said, holding his hand out for me to take.
I eyed him carefully as I put my Starbucks drink on the space besides me, wiping my wet hand on my dress before meeting my hand in his, shaking it firmly.
