I stayed in the kitchen and grabbed a drink from the fridge. I took a sip and forcefully put it down on the kitchen island, still seething. I looked around the room, with my hands on the counter top as I leaned against them. My eyes instinctively shifted to the movement in the doorway, seeing Zach stroll through. I could see through to the living room both Jack and Jonah with their bodies turned on the sofa, arms resting on the back of it and their heads facing our direction, listening out. I rolled my eyes in the presence of Zach.
"I wasn't trying to upset you." He started talking as I brought my eyes back to him, still leaning on the kitchen island. "I don't know. I guess I just thought that since it's so obvious girls do that, you wouldn't get offended." Zach added to his opinion. I scoffed at him, then frowned, extremely frustrated. I removed my hands from the counter, gesturing as I began talking.
"That's not an apology." I stated, noticing Jack and Jonah getting up from the couch upon seeing things escalate again. They headed towards the doorway, while Zach took steps further into the kitchen as he responded.
"What do you want me to apologise for?! Girls flirt like crazy. If you're boyfriend isn't around, then you don't really give a shit as long as you got a replacement." He was snarky now, getting angry with me as my frustration with him increased too.
"How do you not see how insulting that is?! You're including me in that bullshit 'fact'. You're saying that when Corbyn's not here then I'll flirt with you. It's crap, Zach." My voice now raised too, to match his volume. Jonah interrupted, stepping closer towards us to get our attention.
"Guys, we need to calm down, alright? We don't need fight about this." Jonah tried to mediate, while Jack turned his head towards the hallway from where he stood, as if noticing something.
"No, man. I'm not wrong." Zach said bluntly, raising his voice again shortly afterwards in frustration. "She just doesn't want it to be true but we all know it is, y/n. That's why she's being so bitchy. Just get over it!" Jack and Jonah jolting upright with stunned faces, reacting to the way Zach was behaving. I sucked my teeth, letting out a bitter chuckle.
"Zach! Stop. You don't talk to her like that." Jonah scolded him.
"Hey. Man, that's enough now." Jack demanded, defending me too and moving closer towards us in the kitchen, followed shortly by Corbyn.
"Y'know what, why don't you enlighten us some more with all your bullsh-" I snapped, then interrupted by Corbyn.
"What's going on here?" Corbyn asked sternly, appearing from the hallway where Jack had previously been observing. With my furious eyes, I immediately looked at him. "Well?.." He coaxed, still stern. Zach was the first to speak up.
"I don't know what to say man. We're having a bit of a disagreement." Zach vaguely explained, clearly fuming. I let out a small laugh sarcastically.
"Bit of an understatement. Zach's being a di-"
"Y/n." Corbyn cut me off before things got worse. "Yeah, I could hear from the front door that you guys are having 'a bit of a disagreement'." Corbyn gestured with air quotation marks. "I also heard you yelling and call her bitchy, Zach? So, what happened here?" Corbyn demanded to know, clearly annoyed.
"Go on Zach." I prompted.
"Man, I all I did was tell her the truth." Zach retorted.
"Are you for real? That's your explanation!" I snapped back. Both of us broke into an argument again. Shouting back and forth our points, with our hands waving around in the air as we gestured and the volume getting louder. Both of our sentences being overlapped by the other as we expressed ourselves, while still fully understanding what was being said.
"I'm not apologi-"
"But you're wro-"
"I'm not wrong, everyone knows-"
"You're the only one who thinks it, along with other scumbags who treat women like shit-"
"I do not treat women like shit-"
"No of course not, just talk about them like they're shit." I was the last to argue back, when the other three guys managed to get their voices loud enough to overtake mine and Zach.
"Alright alright!" Corbyn shouted.
"Zach, shut up!" Jack yelled, stepping partway between me and Zach to support his attempts to interrupt.
"Guys, guys." Jonah tried to settle us while looming behind me. He wrapped one arm around and across my upper chest, comfortingly, while placing his other hand on the the same side shoulder. He rested there until we'd slowed down our arguing and were just exchanging furious glances at the others in the room. Jonah removed his arms, joining Corbyn and Jack who were stood on the sidelines of me and Zach, shifting their heads left and right to keep our focus.
"This is ridiculous. What are you even arguing about?" Corbyn asked, angrily.
"Zach said that girls don't care when their boyfriends not with them, if there's another guy there to flirt with instead. Including me, Corbyn! He was saying I do that too and I don't!" I stated, flailing my arms as I made my point, getting upset that Corbyn might believe it's true.
"What? Zach, what are you talking about?" Corbyn's head spun to face Zach.
"All I did was make a comment about you not being here and that I was surprised she even noticed." He repeated from earlier on. "Dude I didn't know it was going to make us fight." He held his hands up in defense.
"Well, it's hardly a compliment to accuse your friend of flirting with other guys, when she's in a relationship. C'mon man, you can't see how hurtful that is?" Corbyn pointed out genuinely curious about the answer to the question.
"Yeah, it probably is hurtful, but I'm only saying it how I see it. Okay, I'm only being honest." Zach directed his last sentence to me and his eyes locked with mine, waving his hands about expressively.
"But how you're seeing it is wrong, Zach." I stated bluntly, staring at him coldly. The other guys heads turned to look my way, dread written all over their faces. "We hang out because we're friends. I am comfortable to be around you guys without Corbyn there, but I still want to be with him. Point is, I do not flirt with you and I definitely don't see you as his replacement."
"Zach, you know she doesn't." Jonah added.
"But she-"
"She doesn't flirt with us and you know it." Jonah interrupted Zach, correcting him. "We're all good friends -close friends- so we're just comfortable around each other." Jack and Corbyn nodded their heads in agreement, waiting for our response.
"Right. So can we let this go? " Corbyn encouraged us, his stern eyes shifting between me and Zach from his position to the side of us.
"Yeah, I guess. I'm sorry y/n. I shouldn't have said all those things. You were right, I was being a dick. But you know I love ya." He gave a cheeky grin as he attempted to lighten the mood. He walked towards me, stretching his arms out to the side, gesturing for a hug. I playfully rolled my eyes and tutted, giving in to his apology hug. We jokingly hugged each other too tight, laughing and then letting go.
"Finally, can we go sit down now?" Jack joked with a big grin on his face, pointing to the doorway, suggesting the living room.
"Yes, get out." I laughed, resuming back to our usual manner. Jack and Zach ran off out of the kitchen, jumping over the back of the sofa and landing on the cushions, cackling.
"Sorry Jonah." I turned my head to apologise to him."Eh, don't be. Made our average day quite entertaining." He chuckled, followed by a laugh from myself and Corbyn. Jonah decided to join the guys in the living room, strolling out of the kitchen. As I stood beside the kitchen island, Corbyn came closer, placing his hand on the countertop beside mine. He leaned the side of his body against his one resting hand on the counter. While trying to catch my eyes' focus, I jokingly avoided eye contact while playfully smirking in embarrassment. A grin crept across his face, raising his eyebrow.
"So I guess I can't leave you alone anymore, huh?" He chuckled and I shook my head while laughing, then face palming my forehead. He let out a cheeky laugh, knowing I was embarrassed.
