A few days had passed since Kalma’s Anniversary. Malhar and Kalyani were just talking in their room about how well the celebrations went, when Kaka and Aai came into the room. Kaka said, “I know it’s a bit late, but we have a gift for both of you.” Kalyani asked, “Both of us?” Aai replied, “Yes, for the both of you. We have prepared everything, and you leave tomorrow, for … Kerela.” Kalyani elatedly said, “Wow Aai, it is so nice of you. Thank you so much.” Malhar asked fairly, “But Kaka, what was the need for this?” Kaka said, “There are some things that are done out of affection, and not just for the need of it. It is a time for you two to spend together and remember for the rest of your lives and don’t worry about moksh . Now go and pack.” Malhar smiled and said, “Thank you Kaka.” Aai and Kaka left and Kalyani started taking out bags to pack. She kept glancing in Malhar’s direction, but he did not seem too excited. She felt a little disappointed by his reaction and they packed together in silence.
The next day they left for Cochin and reached around 05:00pm. Kalyani was still a little upset and thought she would talk to him about it when they check into the hotel. When they reached, she got down and was surprised to see they had reached the famous backwaters. Malhar came beside her and closed her eyes with his one hand, and whispered in her ear, “I will make this the most precious memory of your life, and words fall short of the happiness I feel right now, having you all just to me.” He placed a soft kiss on her cheek and guided her with his other hand and they walked together for some distance. He then removed his hand and said, “Open your eyes Kalyani, this is my surprise for you.”
Kalyani opened her eyes and saw the most beautiful houseboat she had ever seen. It was a small one, with a single room and an empty space at the front having no roof overhead, just a small table with two chairs. She became ecstatic and turned and just hugged Malhar. They took out their luggage from the taxi and moved towards the entrance of the boat. Malhar held her hand as they walked inside together. Kalyani was going to open the door to their room, but he stopped her and said, “Let me give you a proper welcome Mrs. Malhar Rane.” She looked at him confused. He smiled sheepishly and picked her up in his arms, bridal style. They went inside the room and he put her down. She looked around and was amazed to see the beautiful room. There were lanterns on the wall that gave the room a romantic ambience. She went near the window, and was mesmerized by the view of the water outside. She turned around and glanced at the bed, which had simple white sheets, and seemed really cozy. She looked up to see Malhar, leaning on the doorframe with his arms folded across. He was smiling innocently and motioned to the bed. Kalyani turned crimson and looked away from him. He came up to her and said, “I am going to change and then I’ll wait for you outside. Don’t take too long dear wife.”
He took his clothes and went to the washroom. Kalyani couldn’t decide what to wear and settled for a saree. Malhar came back and without a word went outside. It had already become dark when he lit the lanterns near the table and sat. After a while, when Kalyani was ready, she dimmed all the lanterns inside the room, and walked out. She saw Malhar sitting, gazing up at the stars, unknown to her presence. She took in his appearance. He was wearing a sky blue button down shirt and jeans. She started walking towards him and he turned around. Malhar stood up gawking at the way she looked. She was wearing a plain white saree and had kept her hair down which was flowing in the night air. She came near him and he said, “Wow!” Kalyani grinned and said, “Why are you looking at me as if you are seeing me for the first time?” Malhar replied whole heartedly, “Because you turn prettier every day.” Kalyani smiled and looked away. Malhar pulled the other chair and asked her to sit. He had ordered food and they ate together talking about random things, from work to home to food to movies to Moksh  and everything else. They finished eating and cleaned up the leftovers. Afterwards, they both stood at the front end of the boat under the open sky and held each other’s hands. The weather had become a little cold and thunder could be heard in the clouds above. Kalyani said, “Malhar ji, honestly, I didn’t think you wanted to come. You were so indistinct about this trip.” Malhar replied, “Kalyani, just because I didn’t react, does not mean I was not happy. I am very grateful that we came here and got to spend this time together.” He kept his hands on the rail and embraced her in between. He kept his chin on her shoulder and said, “I love the view.” “Me too. It’s so quiet here.” said Kalyani.
Just then it started drizzling. Kalyani started rushing inside, but Malhar held her hand and pulled her back to him. The move was so seamless, that she couldn’t help but stare into his eyes. They held love, wrapped in desire. The rain fell harder and both got drenched in no time. Malhar followed the drops of water, moving from her face to her lips. He hushed, “These lips, they are surely going to be the death of me.” Kalyani blushed and looked down. He kept a finger under her chin and raised her face. “Mine” he said. “Yours” she said and closed her eyes. Malhar leaned forward and kissed the corners of her mouth. “Forever” he breathed and met those lips he was craving for, with his. The soft peck soon turned into a passionate kiss, when he pulled her closer and held her face in one hand. Kalyani moved her hands to his hair and leaned into his embrace. Her heart was going into frenzy. He placed his other hand on her bare waist and the touch seemed to ignite turmoil of emotions inside him. Kalyani broke their kiss and went inside. He followed her inside and closed the doors to their room. He saw her standing near the window. The wet saree hugged her body, and seeing her like this, he knew he wouldn’t be able to hold on longer. He hugged her from behind and asked, “What are you feeling Kalyani?” She nodded and didn’t say anything. He insisted, “I want to know what you feel. If you can’t say it, you can show it to me.” She turned at his words and looked at him under the dim lights. His shirt had now become see-through due to the rain. His hair was disheveled and droplets of water still hung on to the strands. She knew she wanted him. She felt like the ocean, constantly reaching the shore and running back. But this time, there was no walking away. She leaned and placed a kiss near his earlobe. It sent a shiver down his spine. She very smoothly, unbuttoned his shirt and slid them off his shoulders. She placed deep kisses on his neck and moved further down to his chest. She could hear the hammering of his heart. She trailed her hand down from his chest to his navel to the v-shaped silhouette on his abdomen. Malhar had his eyes closed and was savoring every touch of hers. She moved behind him and placed kisses on the nape of his neck, and his back. His breathing had become erratic. He wanted to feel her. He turned around in a swift motion and backed her to the wall behind. Both were breathing heavily. He brought both her hands in his left one and raised them above her head. He moved her hair behind her ear and then trailed his finger from her ear to her neck. Kalyani quivered under his touch. He moved towards her shoulder and slid the neckline to reveal her bare shoulder. He lightly grazed his lips along her collarbones to the tip of her shoulder. He drew circles on her stomach with his finger and heard her gasp. He saw the desire burning in her eyes. He took some steps backward holding her hand in his and bringing her along with him to the bed. They sat facing each other. They closed the gap while their lips met together in sync. Malhar leaned in and gently laid both of them down on the bed. It was their moment and they relished every second of it in each other’s arms.
