"So will you play?"
"Don't you care about what happened with Jamie?" I asked Zoe, whilst playing FIFA on Friday morning in the clubhouse at Northport. I had barely been out since the day at the beach, so this was a rare occasion.
"Look, to be honest it's none of my business, as long as it was just an accident, right?" She asked.
"Of course it was! Why would I purposely run over my boyfriend?" I said, shocked that she even had to ask this ludicrous question, even though I had been keeping it a secret for months.
"I know. I'm sorry." Zoe responded. "Well, please play. Me and Kat just want to get scouted, and don't you?" she asked, sitting down next to me.
"I don't really know what I want at the moment." I said, aimlessly staring into the screen.
"Well, we do. This girls' match is really important, Perrie. We need a full team to impress the Hawkstone coach."
"So she's coming?" I asked, surprised that they might have got a top coach to watch them play.
"Yeah, Karen's inviting her."
"Okay, I'll play." I smiled, it would be good to get out for a bit.
"Yes, thanks Pez. Three AM, Tomorrow, don't be late!" She yelled as she left the house.
"I won't" I yelled back, eyes still glued on the screen. I was starting to see why Jamie enjoyed this game so much.
That Saturday I headed down to the club with my kit. Zoe had texted saying we were playing Jack's team from London. As if we would beat them. But before I got to the club, I stopped outside Jamie's house on the way, hoping to make amends. I couldn't do it. I walked on.
In the cafe at the club, I was a little early, so busied myself with playing FIFA, occasionally stopping to say hi to passing club members.
About an hour later, Dillon walked in, heading straight to Zoe, looking distraught and shocked for some reason. They chatted for a while, before my curiosity and worry got the better of me.
"Hey." I walked straight up to them, giving myself no time to hesitate.
"Hey." Dillon replied, giving me a look that said all his emotions. After an awkward silence, Zoe spoke up.
"I need to go find Boggy for my tactics, see you in a bit."
I nodded goodbye and me and Dillon were left alone with everyone else having departed the cafe ready for the game.
"Can we talk? About Jamie?" I asked, nearly pleading, as if I thought he would never speak to me again.
"I think we need to."
I stuttered, trying to find the words."I'm sorry I didn't tell you. And I'm sorry I did it."
"It's ok. I forgive you. I...I've just been dealing with a lot, that's why i've been a bit...distant."
"Dealing with what?" I said, guessing this had something to do with his worried expression upon his face as he entered.
"There's something I need to tell you...I...I'm gay, Perrie."
"What? Why didn't you tell me?" I said, mostly confused; this all seemed so sudden.
"Elliot said..."
"Elliot knew?" I interrupted, "But I'm not relevant enough to know, am I?" As I said this, I realised how insensitive I was being as I glimpsed Dillon's hurt facial expression. I willed myself to stop and speak reason for a minute."I'm sorry. I guess you've had a lot on your mind."
"Yeah... so you don't mind...that I'm gay?"
"No, why would I?" I asked, his face looking visibly relieved the second I said this, a weight off his shoulders.
"Thank God. But my dad didn't exactly react the same."
"Did he get mad?"
"Mad?" Dillon repeated incredulously, "He kicked me out!"
"What? When?"
"Just now. You'd already left." he said, shaking his head.
"Well where will you stay?"
"Becky and Dawn said I can kip on the sofa at Ruby's as long as I want." Before I could respond, Zoe came running in.
"Pez, it's time for the match."
