The distance between his home and the place where The S was held never felt so big.
Reki walked with his hood on and his head down for longer than he could remember. The street just looked bigger than it used to be. His feet and legs ached way more than usual, even though he had walked through that path several times before.
He had spent the last few minutes trying to find out what changed.

Oh right.. I used to skate my way home.

Skating. That's right. He used to skate everywhere. He did it so often he even began to forget how to walk. Yeah, forget the very first thing he learnt, to supposedly follow his biggest dream. Now that dream had been dragged through the mud by a bunch of pros. And the bad thing was, most of them were born with that gift. But not him. Passion can't compete with raw talent.
Leaving Reki looking like a literal child next to everyone else.
It looked as pathetic as it sounds.
But what was new anyway? He realised he was pathetic long ago.

He knew he shouldn't, but he was bringing himself down. All the breathing techniques and nervous habits he had picked throughout the years to avoid moments like this wouldn't help this time. Reki was hating himself, more than he ever did. It used to be so easy to pretend when there was nobody to compare himself to. But those days were gone. Leaving him with foolish thoughts and a bunch of useless skateboards stuffed in his house.

Every step he took was slower than the one before. His thoughts were dragging him down, making his whole body heavier. Like it wasn't already hard enough for him to walk on his own two feet. He was walking slower and slower, until he eventually stopped walking.

A few more tears ran down his face.

He clenched his fist and bit his lower lip, trying (unsuccessfully) to make the tears stop falling. He shouldn't be crying... right..?
He should feel happy for his friend. Langa won. Langa won against Joe. The same Joe that taught Reki a whole bunch of tricks. The same Joe that felt like a father to him.
The same Joe he could never think about going up against, only if he had a death wish.

But the thought of Langa's victory only made him sadder. It didn't make sense. His friend surpassed everything he never dreamt of surpassing only in a few months.

Why can't I feel happy for my friend..?

He was a walking mess. There was no harm in saying it. He actually was. He couldn't support his friend in his victories, as much as he wanted to. Tonight he had realised that Langa was in fact superior and Reki couldn't reach him anymore. He hated seeing him rise like that.
He hated it because it hurted like hell not being psychologically able to accompany him.

Reki angrily wiped his face with his sleeve. He wasn't worthy of the friend he had. He then putted his hands on his pockets as he started walking once again, faster than before.
