*Chris' POV*
I had been with my father and mother all day. They usually took me with them when all the big bosses in the area got together. Today it was a Brunch with the three big neighboring towns and the Warden of the high security prison that is closest to the town we had jurisdiction of.
"Hello Mark," the boss of the biggest city greeted my father.
They were both dressed similarly dressed, business suits. My father's was a black and red pinstriped suit, he wore a red dress shirt underneath the black jacket with a red tie to pull it all together. The other man, what was his name? Ummm, dammit. Oh well. He was wearing a navy blue suit and a regular white dress shirt and a blue/white tie with the look.
My father and the man chatted it up while my mother and his wife talked. Both women were gorgeously dressed. Though it was about noon, they were wearing silk gowns that fit their frames perfectly. Since dad and this man were the two with the most power here, they all stood out. My mother and her 'friend' for their beauty and dad and this man for their power.
I'm just glad I decided to go dressed how I always do when I handle anything to do with my family business. Tight fitted leather jeans adorned with chains on the side, a pair of my grey heels and an equally fitted grey blouse. I decided to ride separate from my parents, so I rode on my sleek black, grey accented, sports bike. So I also had my black leather jacket with me but Reed had it.
Yes, I had to bring my other body guard because I left Gale watching over Storm. Though he is my father's favored to watch me, my best friend hadn't had a day off in forever. So I decided I would let him stay in town while Reed accompanied me here.
He was standing along the wall along with all the other body guards of all the arrogant people in this place. I swear the only people who aren't obsessed with the money is us.
I kept glance to my friend as he leaned on the wall of the expensive building. He held onto my twin pistols- seeing as we aren't allowed to carry them, only our bodyguards- as they were slung over his shoulder in their double holster.
I bit my lip, as I watched him. Reed Himing is one fine piece of- RING!
I jumped at the sudden ringing of his cell phone, that I could hear all the way from the center of the large room. Most eyes in the room landed on him, it was very unusual for anyone but an important official in the organization to have their phone volume up. A mummer broke out across the lower ranks that were their.
I heard as a slight panic over took his face, but something only someone that knew him would be able to pick up on. His eyes locked onto mine, something in them telling me it was urgent and that it involved someone back in the town. I hurried over, my heels giving defent clicks as I crossed the room with a purpose.
"What's wrong Reed?" I asked him in an authoritative voice, a farce we had to keep up for appearance sake.
"Madam, it seems something has happened back home." He stood at attention, a group of higher officials of another group watching us now. Mainly me, as they leered- my father and his company also giving us a curious look.
"It involves, well- dear lord!" He said with a roll of his eyes as he leaned into my ear, as was NOT protocol. I felt his warm breath ghost over my ear, almost making a shiver run down my spine. Almost. I was able to suppress it.
My eyes widened at the news, and I quickly grabbed my jacket from his grasp an automatic sign that I was leaving. I turned sharp on my heels and headed back to my father with a determined glint in my eyes, at which my father raised an interested eyebrow. Reed was already out the door on his way to get his and my bikes to ride back to town immediately.
"Im leaving." I told him sharply. His eyebrow almost rose into his hair line as I informed, not requested, him that I was leaving. It wouldn't have been a big deal at home, but here it made a big difference in the world. Telling your boss something was just plain stupid, where if you Requested something of them, it was seeming as polite and showing respect where the former is like saying you are equals. Which THAT was a big no-no.
"Oh, really? And please do tell, for what exactly do you think you are aloud to inform me you are leaving this wonderful get together that we were invited to?" My father asked. His voice hard and unforgiving. This is the voice he uses when we are immersed in this world and I had to use the same tone.
"Storm was assaulted and I have a sneaking suspicion it was Mr. Christopher's son's doing." And guess who Mr. Christopher's son is? Yuup, Terence.
At my father's lack of words I turn sharply once again. The click of my heels resonating within the, now quiet, room.
"Ill see you at home, love you daddy!" I called over my shoulder in my usual bubbly voice. I ran down the halls of the building while tugging my jacket on. And when I finally met up with Reed, I pulled on my holster for my guns around my waist and hopped on my bike. Speeding down the street with Reed right at my side.
At a red light I called over to him, seeing as neither of us had bother with our helmets in my haste.
"When did this happen Reed?"
"A few days ago actually. Nix said the police, along with Storm's mother were informed."
"And why did it take so long for us to find out?"
"Because Nix said Gale wanted Storm to heal a bit before he told you anything, and that he didn't want to interrupt those important meetings you all had planned for the rest of the week."
"Well, now both those idiots are gonna pay some hell." was the last thing I said as I peeled away from the traffic lights and sped off towards the town. The trip was about and hour and a half, but I had a feeling I would make it sooner.
