A Change

Blackthorn City, home of one of the few remaining Dragon Clans, a city that kept to it's traditions as Dragon User, this city also carries the last members across the two regions.

If we focused on one particular house, we'd find a boy with raven-colored hair, notable zigzag markings on his cheekbones. His tanned skin and slight muscle he had made it obvious that he had been traveling.

A fresh pair of black and red clothes, Blackthorn's badge insignia on the back of the shirt.

The boy was sleeping, however, he seemed restless.
--
He was in a void, struggling against shackles, as he heard, "You're a loser that would only win through luck."
"Misty?"

A new voice hit his ears, "Try finding a new goal, being a trainer just does cut it for you."
"Brock."

Another voice chimed, this one filled him with an animosity-filled anger, "You should never come back to Pallet Town, you're a disgrace to the whole town."
"You... I don't who you are, but... I hate you."

The final voice caught him off guard, "It's should be obvious, you weren't destined to be a trainer, your little stint as a trainer was disgraceful, and over."
"What... Professor...? What do you..."

Before he reacted, he was tackle by one of his ten Tauros, it felt like he was kicked in the head.
--
"...up."
He felt another not-so-light kick to the head, making him groan in pain.
"Get up!" The voice hissed, he could feel the frustration rolling off of the female that was kicking him.
--
Watching the teenage boy wake up, she nearly growled in animosity. 'What does my cousin see in him. He's some boy, only made it to the top 8 in the Indigo League, he only got that far on sheer luck. He'll never pass the test the Elder gives.'

Ash had rose, rubbing the weariness from his eyes. Looking at the woman, he hid his blush, her hair was blue with matching eyes, she was stunning, the fierce glare intensified her relations to her type specialty. The part that made him hide his blush was her near-skin tight, dark blue outfit, complimented by a black cape and a jewel on her neck similar to a Dragonair's jewel. Thing was, she had no sleeves on the outfit and the parts that covered her legs ended at his mid-thighs.

He focused on what she was saying, "Get those training clothes on, the Elder wishes to quiz you. And my cousin wanted to get those clothes for you. Now with haste."
"Wait, where's my-"
"Your Pokémon are fine. Now get moving."

He held a flinch at her tone and anguish she gave off as she left. Putting the new clothes on, he muttered, "Man, what did I do to her..."
--
An elderly man was sipping tea, the sounds of trainers fighting could be heard faintly, along with Water and Dragon Pokémon moving through the water surrounding this shrine.

This week was interesting, several outsiders with potential took a test to see if they could train under the Dragon Tamers. One was a girl with blue hair tied to two pigtails and the other was a red haired boy.

They both were unique, but their views and Pokémon told a story. The girl was too kind to be trained for the ruthlessness of Dragons and the boy, despite being a thief from the looks of his Pokémon, he seemed to be turning over for the better, but he was too harsh. Now Lance had dropped a boy off, believing him to have the potency to learn. The thing that amused him was how much it pissed Clair off.

His thoughts were interrupted by Clair greeting, a stern tone, "I have brought him, sir."

He looked at Ash, hiding his bit of surprise, Lance hadn't talk to the boy and yet, the Dragon Master had predicted he'd pass the quiz. "Thank you, Clair, you may leave for now."

She nodded, going outside to wait. "Come sit, young man."

Taking a seat across from the Elder, he asked, "What am I doing here?"

The Elder smiled, "It's simple, to take a test of sorts, the Champion sees something, I hope to as well."

Ash scratch his head, nervous, "I don't think I have a pencil. though."

He laughed lightly, "It isn't written, just a verbal test. Are you ready?"
"Y-yeah..."

Smiling at the nervousness, he nodded, "Alright, let us begin. If you were to pick, what would you pick? Strong Pokémon or weak Pokémon?"

While Ash thought about it, the Elder internally commented, 'This will show what kind of trainer he is. Silver preferred strong Pokémon, while Kris preferred Weak Pokémon mainly.'

"I like strong Pokémon and weak Pokémon equally, but it doesn't matter how I think..."
"What do you mean?" 'That's new, even Lance hasn't commented.'
"A Pokémon is only as strong as the person who trains them."

"Hm... interesting, alright, what's your views on battling? Power, Strategy?"

Ash pondered, giving a response, "I plan for who to use, but I don't really plan entirely for what I'll face, you never know what could happen."

"Alright." 'This boy has a very interesting view, now for the final question.' "What do you view you view your Pokémon as? Tools, Friends, Allies?'

Ash didn't even think, he responded, "They're my family."

The Elder pondered, before he stood up, "Follow me... I'll explain why Master Lance took you here."
"Alright."

As they walked deeper into the shrine, the Elder explained, "Lance is a prodigy on his own, his fame made him a man you wouldn't want to fight on your own, especially under the training you've been doing. Lance brought you here to receive training. To receive this training as a none-dragon clan member is impossible. So with your passing the test, we can comfortably deem you worthy of the training, however, there is one problem."

Ash looked at him in concern, "What problem?"
"You must be a member of our clan and while you are an exception, most outsiders must acquire a Dragon-type and marry into our clan. For you though, you must become a Blackthorn member to train."

"A-Alright... I think... I can do that..."
"If that's your final say in this, keep moving. I have the ideal Dragon for you."

Ash nodded, though reluctance etched on his face.
--
AN: Just know, Ash will mentally change some, he'll be the same lovable nut, he'll just be influenced by the type he's being groomed to specialized in.

I'll note that Ash will have some Pokémon from one or two other regions, but I can't guarantee it. All Pokémon will take after Pokémon Radical Red and the Last Fire Red like Pokémon trainers have and what they are changed to have.
Now Ash will have a few of Red's Pokémon, he'll have Larvitar, Eevee instead of Phanpy, etc...

There are OCs in this, along with differences. Gary is named Green in this; instead of Blastoise, he'll have a Charizard. Kris and Silver exist more close to their originals and manga. Just know Misty took the mantle as Gym Leader at the end of the Indigo League instead of the Silver League. Ash catches Poliwag and it evolves all the way to Politoed. Brock was traveling with Ash, but he return to his gym.

For now, ciao
