~ the back story ~

I grew up as a rich girl. I played piano, went to private school and did ballet from age 5 to 11. My father is a business man and my mum is well. She is a stay at home mum. My mum grew up in the 70's, she's a real rock n roll chick. She always has been. At least when my dad was at work. He never let any of us be independent or ourselves. He is a total asshole. We Always had to be sophisticated, classy and boast about how much money we had. When I was 12 my parents thankfully got a divorce. My mum and I moved to Vancouver and she finally become the 70's baby she was in her teens. Mum and I always used to blast music when dad was at work. Nirvana, Led Zepplin and other bands like that. Mum also started playing guitar again and even took up pottery. We discovered a pretty cool band called Calpurnia and I became a grunge child. My mum bought me a drum kit for my 13th birthday and I've been on it since then. I am pretty good now.

~ present day ~
Feeling the uncomfortable feeling of loneliness and longing for a friend. I sat in my bed searching Spotify's indie artists for some new music. "That sounds intriguing" I said to myself as I read the title Afraid to drink by The Aubrey's. I clicked on it and instantly started listening to their other stuff (which was also so beautifully produced and the lyrics amazing. And those drum beats. To die for). I did my research on my new found favourite band and I had come up with the brilliant idea that the drummer Malcolm Craig is very cute. I found Malcolms Instagram and followed him as well as his band mate Finn and their bands account. I then decided on going for a walk to the record store. I got a record player for my 16th last year and still hadn't any records. So to the record store I went.

As well as just getting into The Aubrey's I also found out that Malcolm and the guitarist/singer Finn were also in Calpurnia. My mum found out about them in 2018 and we listened to them all the time. So that's nice. I had also just recently gotten into Lana Del Rey, Twin Peaks and Ariel Pink. So that's fun.

Upon arriving to the record store, I happened to notice a familiar face. "Finn right? Guitarist and singer in the Aubrey's. I love your band you and Malcolm are spontaneously talented" I smiled walking up to him. "Thanks dude yeah. Is that all you recognise me from?" Finn replied, "Weird question but nope. Only Calpurnia and Aubrey's. Can't place your face any where else" I answered, "That's a first. I'm an actor. I'm in a hit Netflix show called Stranger Things and various other things" Finn explains. "Woah dude that's so cool" I grinned. "Yeah. So what's your name?" Finn asked, "Penny. Mum told my dad we should call me Penny because the name sounds proper which dad instantly agreed with. But my mum actually named me Penny after the Beatles song Penny Lane" I answered, "That's super cool. Play any instruments?", "Yeah I play drums. Mum and I jam sometimes. She plays guitar", "That is so awesome. Malcolm also plays bass. You should come over to Malcolms tomorrow for a jam. I'll play guitar and sing, Malcolm can play bass and you can play drums. I think you two will get on well. I mean I think you're cool so no doubt Malcolm will as well." Finn suggested, "That sounds great yeah I'll do that.", "Sweet. What's your address. Malcolm is picking me up he can get you too" Finn smiled. I gave him my address. Turns out we lived three houses away from each other.
