"I'm Shoyo Hinata. Will you set for me?"Those eight words marked how Hinata made his first friend at Karasuno.
The boy looked at the hand outstretched to him, slowly reaching out to shake it. "Tobio Kageyama..." he muttered, looking unsure what to do. Why's this guy so worried?
"Something on your mind?" Hinata asked. The boy named Kageyama tensed up, swiping his hand away from Hinata's and shaking his head. "Okay... then will you set for me?"
"Uh, yeah. Sure,"
Hinata smiled wide, tempted to hug the stranger then and there. "Sweet! Snacks are on me!"
"I can't let you–" Kageyama began. He was cut off by Hinata grabbing his wrist and dragging him back to the chip aisle. "Hey!"
"Cmon, just choose something. You're helping me practice, it's the least I can do,"
Kageyama opened his mouth as if he was about to say something, then sighed, grabbing a bag of plain chips and handing it to Hinata. "Fine," he said, giving in. Hinata smiled, walking past him to look at the chocolate bars. As he did so, a tall man likely in his late twenties walked in the store. His hair was blonde and a little longer, and a cigarette waiting to be lit rested between his teeth. He glanced at Hinata briefly before looking over them in Kageyama's direction.
"I thought I told the team to go home and rest, Kageyama," the man said. Hinata looked up, suddenly extremely interested in who this man was.
"Sorry, Coach. I was hungry," Kageyama replied. "And I met–"
"Are you Karasuno's volleyball coach?" Hinata asked, excitement filling up inside him yet again. The man looked away from Kageyama and down to Hinata.
"That I am. Why?"
"My name is Shoyo Hinata. I'm joining the volleyball club tomorrow,"
"Ah," the man nodded, putting out a hand for Hinata to shake. "Takeda mentioned you earlier. I'm Coach Ukai. Normally I'd have said this tomorrow, but welcome to the team."
Hinata shook his hand eagerly, doing his best not to drop the food in their arms. "I'm just excited to play with you guys," they grinned. Coach Ukai chuckled.
"I bet you are," he said. He motioned for the worker to go do something else and went behind the cash register. "You two just pay for your things and go home and rest. Got it?"
"Got it," Hinata and Kageyama said in unison. Hinata rushed up to the register, paying for Kageyama's chips and their multiple chocolate bars, before gathering all the food again and rushing out of the store with the talk setter. Once the shop doors were closed, Hinata looked up at the stone-faced boy.
"We're not actually going home, right?" He asked, passing Kageyama his bag of chips. He opened it and shook his head.
"Do you have a ball?" He asked, looking down at the excited redhead. Hinata shook his head. "We'll drop by my place and grab one."
"Sweet!" Hinata practically yelled. He brought a hand up to his mouth immediately after, giggling a little. "Oops."
Kageyama shoved them a bit with his side, shaking his head. "Dumbass,"
That sounds kinda familiar.
They looked up at Kageyama with a new wonder. Could he be...? His voice did sound similar to Milkboy's, but up until now he acted completely different from Meanie. There was no way, right?
