A/N: The episode being used for this chapter is called 'Call It Macaroni'.
Tuesday, 7:30 a.m.
"Sargent Voight is very familiar with the rules and guidelines of the Chicago Police Department. And he was given a direct order from street deputy Horton to answer each and every question truthfully. At this time, I'd like to state that Sargent Voight is only answering these questions under duress." The Sargent's lawyer informs everyone in the room. Normally, Hank Voight would already be at work by now, but currently, the man is sitting in front of a table with superintendent deputies, superior officers, and Edwin Stillwell. After eating dinner with Danielle last night, Hank was informed he would need to show up to the Ivory Tower this morning, so here he sits. See, a little under a year ago, there was a guy named Sheldon Jin who had been the tech for Intelligence. Edwin Stillwell, who works for Internal Affairs, decided to have Jin flip on Hank, meaning he'd have to build a case on the Sargent that would prove him to be a dirty cop. The Sargent noticed a shift in Jin's behavior right away for the tech always found some reason to be in Voight's office to 'update' his computer. When Hank found out what Stillwell was doing to Jin, he tried helping the kid, but the tech wound up dead. Now Edwin is accusing Voight of being the last person to be seen with Jin, trying his hand at taking down Voight. "You got something to ask me? Ask it." Hank states plain and simple while crossing his arms. "The last person we know Sheldon Jin spoke to was you. There was an outgoing cellphone call from your personal cell to Jin's personal cell an hour before he was killed. Do you remember making that call?" One of the Internal Affairs people asks. "I do." Hank answers, keeping a straight face. "Sargent Voight, were you in any way involved with or do you have any knowledge that would lead to the arrest of the individual responsible for the murder of Chicago Police Officer Sheldon Jin?" Street deputy Horton asks. "Absolutely not." Hank answers, silence falling in the room. "Are we done?" Hank asks when no one else says anything. The superiors look at one another before one speaks up. "For now." Horton says. With those words leaving his mouth, Hank stands up while grabbing his hat. "Stay reachable, Sargent." Stillwell tells him, watching as he walks out of the room, Hank quickly making his way out of the Ivory Tower and to his car, soon speeding away from headquarters to get to the 21st.
"So this isn't the first time this has happened?" Danielle asks Al as they each make a cup of coffee for themselves in the break room. "Nope. And it definitely won't be the last time. Look, all of us that are currently working with Voight have had a target on our back at one point in our careers. Sure, it's stressful, but he always finds a way to tackle those obstacles. There's also a lot of hate Intelligence gets, and there's been a lot of people who try to come at us just to get to Voight. That's something you need to come to terms with right now if you're going to be doing what you have been with me and him." Al tells her softly, watching her nod a bit, not seeming bothered. The sniper feels this is very comparable to the bullying she received in high school, the only difference is that working in Intelligence alone can lead to her losing her life. She checks to see if anyone else has gotten to work yet, finding the desks still empty. "He's got a lot of enemies, doesn't he...?" She asks softly as they throw away their coffee stirrers. "Yeah, but none of them have been able to bring him down." Al answers softly. Both smile at each other before he follows her out of the break room, Danielle hearing footsteps coming from the garage before getting to her desk. She finds Hank walking towards her, still in uniform. "How'd it go?" She asks him softly once he stops in front of her. Relieved to see the only person who hasn't judged him so far for what he's done, he doesn't answer her right away, instead gently cups her face in his hands and kisses her lips. Danielle's surprised, to say the least, and lets Al hold her coffee cup so she doesn't drop or spill it, kissing Hank back. Voight let Olinsky be the one to decide whether or not he wanted to tell the sniper about what happened a few long months ago, being that Stillwell has begun pointing the finger at Hank after all that time. Al decided to let Danielle in on the pasts of him and his best friend, not wanting to hide anything from her, and so she can be caught up with who Jin is. "It went. They asked some stupid questions. I left." Hank answers with after they've pulled away from each other, finding comfort in the soft laugh she gives him as a blush sweeps across her face. "That was one hell of an answer." She tells him, the three laughing a bit as Al hands her her coffee cup. "I'm in a good mood now, thanks to you." Hank tells her with a small smirk before telling her and Al he's going to go change his clothes. While he's gone, the other Unit men begin to trickle in, Antonio looking for Hank as soon as the Sargent is back in his office from changing. "I got that info from a C.I. I've gotten 12 tips from her in the past. All of them paid off." Antonio explains to Hank who reads the piece of paper he handed him. "Trade-safe, Route 5, today. That's it?" Hank asks Dawson. "That's it." Antonio answers with a nod. "Alright, set it up." Hank tells him, Antonio leaving his office to tell everyone else the plan.
"How much you make an hour?" Al asks Adam who's going undercover this morning as an employee for an armored van sting Antonio's C.I.'s boyfriend knows about. "$12.50." Adam answers as he straps on his vest. "How long you been with the company?" "6 months." "What do you hate about the job?" "I love everything about it. I really do." Adam answers with a small laugh, putting on a company shirt they let him borrow. "Hey, Danielle. How do I look?" Adam asks the sniper as she walks into the garage where he, Al, and Antonio are. "You look great." She answers with a smile. "Awesome." He says with a smile, thanking her. "We'll be right behind you....eyes and ears....the whole time. You got two distress signals. For visual, just run both hands through your hair. For verbal, just say 'popcorn'." Antonio tells Adam. "Popcorn?" Ruzek asks, Antonio nodding. "Either one of those or both, and we're moving in." Dawson reassures him. "Alright, I got it." Ruzek confirms, Kevin, Mouse, Jay, Danielle, Antonio, and Al standing around. "Hey." Hank tells everyone as he walks into the garage, standing in front of the small group as they all look at him. "We all go home tonight." Hank tells them, watching each of them nod. "Trudy got us some unmarked cop cars, keys are in the ignitions. Just choose and let's roll out." Hank orders all of them, each pair quickly choosing a car and getting in to be able to get Adam where he needs to be and to be able to follow him when he gets into the armored vehicle.
~35 minutes later~
"Hey, what are we thinking for lunch? What...Mexican, Chinese, burgers? I'm good with anything but sushi, alright? Had a bad experience once, so...we'll leave it at that." Adam tells the two employee guys he's riding with in the van. Intelligence is now following the van, camouflaging with the back road traffic to not get made as they listen to Ruzek just making friendly conversation to play off his cover, one driving, one in the passenger seat, leaving Adam to sit in the trunk portion. "What happened? Did you get sick eating it or something?" The passenger asks with a smile. "Eh, you know what? Any time somebody says they had a bad experience with sushi, it's safe to assume they got sick from it. All-in sick, you know what I'm sayin'?" Adam answers, the three men laughing. "Maybe you choked on it." The passenger tells him. Hank and Antonio are paired up together, Hank driving, leading the others in a blue Dodge Durango. "Up here. What's this?" Antonio asks, watching a car run a stop sign at the 4-way stop intersection, almost crashing into the armored van that they're following, missing it by a hair. "Look out!" The passenger shouts to the driver who slams on the van's brakes. "Damn it!" The driver yells, the three relieved they weren't hit as they leave the stop sign. Almost at the stop sign, Antonio looks left to make sure that way is clear but is met by a speeding black Ram truck. "Voight!" He shouts at his boss who turns to see what he's looking at as he slows the car down all the way, the truck crashing into their Dodge, hitting the driver's side. The driver of the armored van stops driving, having heard and seen the crash happen. "Better call it in." He tells the passenger and Ruzek, pulling out his phone. "Yep." The passenger agrees. As soon as the phone is put up to the driver's ear, the passenger takes out a gun and shoots him at close range, the driver slumping forward. Adam quickly opens the back door, ducking while getting out as the passenger keeps shooting. "Popcorn! Popcorn! Popcorn!" He shouts into the well hidden mic on his clothes, rushing over to a parked car and ducking behind it as two cars pull up in front of the van, the people inside shooting at Adam. Kevin and Jay pull up next to him, Al and Danielle right behind them as Intelligence takes cover behind their open car doors, heavy gunfire being made between them and the offenders. Adam is able to hit one of the offenders a couple of times as the passenger grabs something out of the van before making his way to one of the getaway cars. "Punch in, go!" He tells the driver who reverses his car, the second getaway vehicle doing the same, Jay running after it a bit before stopping and shooting at the car, shattering the back window and break lights. "Hey, hey, hey! Are you guys alright?" Danielle asks Hank and Antonio as she and Al make their way to their crashed vehicle. "Yeah, we're fine! Let's go." Hank assures her before telling Antonio, letting him make his way out of the passenger side door before Hank crawls over the middle console to get out through the passenger side as well. "Charlie 5021 emergency (A/N: she uses Olinsky's call sign since she rode in his car), we have shots fired by the police. Roll an ambo to 1400 West Roosevelt. We have multiple wanted offenders." Danielle calls in on her radio, meeting up with Kevin and Jay who are checking on Adam.
