After Present Mic's announcement, I look down at the card I picked up at the entrance that I haven't looked at until now. It reads

"Exam Ticket"

"Examinee No.:2238"

"Test Location: Battle Center B"

I head down to my Battle Center B. Before entering I check my phone one more time. Nothing. I guess she's not coming..? I shake my disappointment nerves as I let down my ponytail and scratch my scalp in relief. I can vividly feel my phone in my pocket as I mentally pray for it to buzz with a notification.

...

IT BUZZES. I yank it out of my pocket and almost elbow the burly dude behind me. I don't apologize, I'm too busy trying to get my hand to stop shaking so I can see her message. It's from Snapchat. It's just streaks. I practically crush the phone in my hand. My vision gets blurry. I blink it off. I don't bother looking at the phone again before I put it in my locker compartment.

I'm stuck in the middle of the crowd right by the gates. ...The fuck are we waiting for? "Heroes" don't need a countdown. I push my way to the front of the crowd and ignore the complaints from the people I pass. One burly dude tries to shove me back but my hair grabs his wrist on reflex.

He activates his quirk on impact and nails start flying. What the fuck is wrong with this dude?? I change my hair texture to a hardened material and squeeze his arm as a warning. I watch him crumble to the floor with pity in my eyes. It's so... depressing. I drop his arm and continue to the front right as Present Mic announces,

"HEY HEY HEY! WHAT'RE YOU WAITING FOR? HEROS DONT GET A COUNTDOWN!" ... I fucking knew it.

It begins.

I move through the exam with only the thought of her missing presence my mind fueling me.

Hair Shield.

Break.

Strike.

Block.

Where is she?

Hair Shield.

Break.

Strike.

Is she hurt?

Block.

Hair Shield

Break.

Strike.

Should I have gone on without her?

Strike.

Strike?? Oh SHIT.

I put my arms up to block an incoming hit. Nothing happens for a moment. I began to think time stopped until I feel metal scraps graze my skin. Looking around, I see a hardened arm stuck in the robot inches from my face. I glance up and mutter thanks even if I am bitter about my loss of points. He smiles my way and lends me a hand.

I stand up fine on my own, moving on to the next robot as if nothing happened. I don't have any time for other people.
