I admired my classmate, Kenji. He always kind to everyone and treats everyone the same. Afterschool, I asked him out behind the school.
"W-would you g-go o-out with me?!" My voice was terrible. He stratch his neck awkwardly, "Well.. I don't want to hurt your feelings and all but I already have someone I like. So.. I'm sorry... I have to turn you down." said Kenji saying it as politely as he could. My chest was somehow relieved, "It's fine. I'm just glad I had a chance to express my feelings to you Kenji." It was now awkward with the two of us still standing next to each other, "W-who do you like Kenji? You don't have to answer if you don't want too." I said. "Aki... Her name is Aki. She's a friend of yours..."
It's definitely akward now. The guy I asked out, likes my friend, and my friend and I are like childhood friends; we share a strong bond together.
"Good luck asking her out... Hehe." I tried to laugh it out; trying not to cry as I can already tell he notice my watery eyes. "It's time for me to go now." I said awkwardly. I turn around not facing Kenji and quickly walked. "Wait! You haven't told me your name yet!" I quickly look back at him, "It's Azuki. I'm in your class, dummy." Then I ran fast as I could straight home not looking back. "Azuki.."
I was at home; took me about seven minutes to get home because I was running. I was still heart broken that the guy I asked out, likes my friend. Well I guess I can understand why, I mean... I'm definitely not girly. Aki can be as gjrly as they can be. Plus my family owns a dojo, I practice there doing my free time then it became a stupid routine for me. I still can't believe people like Kenji can forget about me sometimes.
I was sulking in my room. Mom was in the kitchen when she heard a knock from the front door. She instantly knew who was it just by the familiar sound of the knock. Mom called for me, "Azuki! Aki's here to see you!" I heard mom's voice through my door, "Be right there!" I reply back.
Mom open the door for her, "Come in the house Aki." "Ok." Aki was waiting for me on the couch and mom continue to cook dinner. I was dressed and ran down stairs panting. "What.. B-brings you here Aki?" I ask. "My mom wants me to go shopping and..-" "Sure I'll come. I don't mind at all, I got nothing to do anyways." I said interrupting her sentence. Aki smiled. She got off the couch and waited for me near the front door. I was putting my shoes on, "I sometimes wonder how you would know what Aki would say next." said Mom sighing. "We're childhood friends of course. I've known her longer than anyone else." I said talking back.
"Don't stay too long Azuki." "Right!" I close the door, "Whew. Raising a daughter can be a real handful sometimes." said Mom to herself.
I was holding Aki's hand, "What did your mom tell you to buy this time?" I said while giggling. I was swinging our hands back and forth. Aki spoke, "This time my mom wants me to buy flowers from a local flower shop. She plans to experiment flowers this week." said Aki. "I see!" I said laughing out loud. Aki's mom is a scientist. She rarely come home but when she is home, she would tell Aki to go shopping for her. I want to ignore my thoughts of being rejected right now while being with Aki.
"Since we're going shopping, we should hang out." "Sure!" smiled Aki. This can get me distracted from that horrified feeling (of being rejected). Before going to a flower shop, we would go to different shops and hang out. I saw a stand selling ice-cream. I ran to the stand and bought a chocolate flavor and vanilla flavor ice-cream. Ai was waiting for me at the bench she reserved for the two of us. I gave her the chocolate flavor ice-cream and sat down next to her, "Thank you.." "What are friends for?!" I laugh knowing she only brought enough money to buy the flowers.
We were eating ice-cream on the bench, "Did something happen at school today?" ask Aki. "No, nothing special happen." I reply back. "You can't hide anything from me Azuki." said Aki licking her ice-cream before it melts. "Well you are right that I can't hide anything from you. You somehow always notice if something is not right." I said. "Then.." "I'll tell you when we're alone," "Ok... I'll wait." After we were finish eating our ice-cream we finally went to the flower shop. We went through the open door, "Welcome!"
