Sam was going to be late. He knew that for sure now. The sun was now only a faint glow around an apartment block in the distance of Lordanshire city and the moon had risen. A silvery crescent. He was just wondering if he should have caught the bus instead of walking home when something flickered in the corner of his eye.
A shadow.
But when he looked there was only the same alley he walked past every day after school. Sam frowned. This wasn't one of the places where Nathan and his gang hung out was it? It would be just like him to jump out at him from a dark alleyway.
"I know you're there." Sam tried.
No answer.
Keeping up the act probably Sam thought. Or you are just talking to an empty alley like an idiot he told himself.
He turned to go.
Something hit Sam from behind, throwing him onto the ground. He got a lightning fast impression of claws digging into his back. Hot breath near his neck. Then the beast ripped his neck open and there was only pain.
Dimly Sam heard something like a cry, a howl in anguish or pain.
Then the world dissolved before his eyes.
