Spirit Week (parts 1-3. Excerpt below)
"So, let me get this straight," I said, pacing back and forth in the small space in the alcove. "You want me to go up to our great aunt, smile and say, 'Hey, Aunt Betsey! Meredith and I wanted to know how to summon the dead so we can make a football player look like an idiot!' Excellent idea, Mere!"
"What do you want me to do, look up 'how to summon eighteenth-century spirits' on Google? That will look great in the eyes of the internet police!" she snarled.
"Mere, the internet police don't exist!"
"Neither do ghosts, but here we are, about to summon them!"
The Vampires (part 4— excerpted below)
Sanguina laughed. "It's really possible to be a modern vampire."
"Sure, your family may disown you," said Brent passively. "But it's pretty fun. I get to eat steaks extra, extra rare, I can't drown, and I've learned to juggle knives."
"You cut off at least seven fingers every time," said Giotto. "It's nonsense."
"Who cares? I'm a vampire. I can just stick them back on."
The Coolest Necklace Ever and Several Unfortunate Incidents Involving Superman Ice Cream: A Companion to Spirit Week (part 5, excerpt below) (only first chapter is published)
"You know this is a store for old people, Aud. No once actually buys things." We stepped out of the shop and were met with a hot blast of summer air. "Holy cats!" she exclaimed. "I didn't realize how much it reeked of mothballs and dead people in there."
I punched Meredith lightly on the shoulder. "Do you even know what mothballs smell like?"
"Of course not. I bet the smell's hideous, though."
