A Bouquet a Day (Bdoc)

It was only a matter of time before I wrote a classic Flower Shop AU fic, and here it is!

The bell on the flower shop's door rang, signaling a new customer. Doc sat up and closed the book he was reading. He was surprised to see someone he recognized; Bdubs, a boy from his class. They rarely talked before, but they did have mutuals.

He watched as the freckled brunette walked around, constantly glancing over at him. "Need any help?" he asked, resting his elbows on the counter. Bdubs' cheeks turned a light rose color.

"No, I'm okay, but thank you!"

-

A couple of minutes later, he came up to the register with one of the smaller premade bouquets picked out. The hybrid couldn't help but notice his classmate was staring at the back of the cash register, cheeks turning a darker shade. But since it wasn't his business, he brushed it off and gave him his change and flowers.

"See you in class," Bdubs said with a smile before heading out.

"See you!" Doc echoed before the door closed. He tilted his head, watching Bdubs stare at the bouquet in his hands and grin. Wonder who those are for, he found himself thinking.

-

The hybrid observed a pattern sprout between them. Every other day, when the sales slowed down, Bdubs would walk in. He'd nervously look around and end up buying a small number of flowers.

And then in school, Doc began to pick up little things about him.

How his face scrunched up when he was thinking, how his eyes sparkled when he was invested in something. How when he did something right he'd always try to suppress a smug grin but failed every time.

Funny, he never paid so much attention to anyone - let alone Bdubs - like this before. Before he knew it, he began to talk to him.

-

"Have you considered starting a garden?" he asked one day when Bdubs brought up a bouquet of white daisies, pink tulips, and orange foxgloves.

"What?"

"I honestly probably shouldn't suggest this, since you buying flowers makes us more money, but," he reached to the wall behind him and plucked a couple of seed packets. "It'd probably save you money to plant some flowers yourself. They'll take time, sure, but I promise it'll be worth it."

A familiar sparkle glazed over Bdubs' eyes as he stared at the packets, then up at Doc. "That's a great idea, thanks!" He ended up buying some seeds with the bouquet.

The next day, he went up to Doc at school, which surprised him. He explained with his dad's help, he started a garden.

Over the next couple of days, Bdubs kept him updated on how the garden was doing. Sometimes he'd come into the shop and not even buy anything and just talk with him. It was nice.

-

As Doc sat in the shop, he nervously played with a pen. It had been a month since Bdubs started regularly coming to the shop, a little over a week since he started his garden. He told himself that today he was going to ask him to grab a coffee. Not a date, per se, but kind of like a date. The dark brunette checked the time. They'd be closing soon.

Bdubs came in, his face flushed. He couldn't help but wonder if a similar idea was circling his head. He came up to the counter, a bouquet of red and pink carnations in hand. After ringing him up, Doc opened his mouth to ask him, but before he could say anything the shorter brunette was gone.

Strange.

-

After locking the door, Doc stretched and looked around. His eyes stopped and his heart dropped, shattering like a glass vase against the sidewalk.

He felt like an idiot.

Across the street, he watched as a rosy-cheeked Bdubs laced fingers with a familiar dirty blonde. The boy in the red sweater was tenderly holding the bouquet in his free hand. Giggling, Bdubs kissed Grian's cheek before the two began walking.

The hybrid looked away as his stomach had turned into a black hole, sucking in all of his feelings.

He made the mistake of glancing over once more and caught Grian press a quick kiss to the brunette's lips. It left him flustered and he turned his face into the blonde's shoulder.

Doc never walked home faster.

Ooh yikes does that say Bdoc in the title? Oopsie :)
