This was one of the days Nendo got to school before you. Usually, he'd be sticking to Saiki like superglue a couple of paces behind you, but today you found him standing straight, arms out at the gates right beside Matsuzaki Sensei. The brooding gym teacher was giving the early-balding giant a full-body inspection.
As soon as Nendo saw you, his mouth curled up into the most horrific smile you've ever seen. You shielded your face with a hand and tried slipping through the gates. You didn't want death by Nendo in broad daylight, after all.
Of course, before you could slip through, Nendo ripped Matsuzaki's Sensei's hands off his body, and appeared in front of you, not wasting a second of time. If you weren't trying to hide from him, you'd be impressed.
"Hey, pal! You feelin' alright today?"
As he talks, his booming voice seemed to jiggle his entire body under his uniform. He was looking chunkier than usual today.
"Haha...yeah! I'm just anaemic, I overestimated myself yesterday." You glance behind Nendo and see that Matsuzaki Sensei had lost Nendo already. He was 5 feet away.
This day is sending mixed signals now. One, you're not anaemic. And two, you're horrible at lying. Does it want to be good or does it want to be bad?
His smile turned itself upside down, almost literally. You could tell he was worried about you.
"Oh, jeez! Well, pal, I've got just the thing for you."
His chunkiness was not from sudden bodily stress. Nendo ripped off his uniform like he was about to smackdown in a globally-watched WWE match, and underneath his bright turquoise uniform was a vest. A vest covered in convenience store coffee jellies. They were wrapped in plastic, but every time he took a breath in, they jiggled under the morning sun.
You wanted to cover your mouth at the sight of their bounciness. The fact that Nendo was walking around with all of that coffee jelly stuck to his body was a miracle.
But before you could utter even a gasp of surprise, Matsuzaki Sensei screeched, shielding his eyes from the rippling rays of light emitting from the jellys' plastic wrap.
He grabbed Nendo by the arm and dragged him to the office through the front doors with a hand over his eyes. He bumped into at least half of the students in his path.
Day One already felt like a month. The dragging on of this scene made you want to punch the author.
After the commotion, you breathed a heavy sigh of relief. There was no Saiki to be seen yet even with all the coffee jellies, and you stood right in front of the gates for a little while longer. Still nowhere to be seen as other students of all grades came pouring in. You felt a little disheartened, but you remembered what he did this morning. That put enough of a smile on your face to send you strutting into the building, following the last few students arriving at school. Maybe you'd see him after the day was over. You held onto your phone tightly.
Yeah, I know I said I was gonna be gone, but I remembered how fun writing this was, so I'm gonna continue it! I'm sorry for not being too clear on why I took a break, but I'll tell you guys soon. :)
