Andriette's P.O.V
I woke up on something wet and a little squishy. I was confused for a second before remembering the events from last night. It wasn't a dream! My brain shouted gleefully. I really saved a Skrill!
I replayed the events of last night in my head: A Skrill crashed in my yard with three arrows in its leg. I pulled them out and helped him hide behind my house. Then a bunch of people came close to where we were hiding and revealed that they were searching for the Skrill.
"Keep searching. We're not leaving without that Skrill," Dagur’s voice had said.
But Dagur turned good in the series. Did he go back to bad? Or did parts of the series not happen yet? The latter makes more sense because before he got Shattermaster, he was always trying to find a Skrill.
My overactive brain worked overtime until I got a general idea of what was happening.
I finally opened my eyes and saw the wet ground, and a dark bluish purplish wing. I pushed the wing off of me and crawled out from under it. I stood up completely and, to my relief, the storm stopped in the night.
With the rain and darkness gone, I could finally get a good look at the Skrill.
I really have to come up with a name for him.
His scales were mostly black and purple, but he had a few spots of dark blue, too.
Without really thinking, I reached out my hand and started petting his head. His eyes opened and I almost pulled back my hand, but he closed his eyes again and leaned into my hand.I smiled and said, "Morning. Let's see if I did a good job with those arrows, huh?"
I walked around him and over to his left leg. I saw the hasty patch job I did in the night. I was half expecting to see blood, but the rain must have washed it away.
Thank God.
I removed the leaves and saw that I did a very poor job taking out the arrows. There were three holes where the arrows were, but without them there, the scales were pushed apart and some of them were sticking up a bit. When I looked past the scales, I could see torn flesh.
I cringed at the sight. I was never any good when it came to first aid. I fail at putting on those little bandages you use when you get a paper cut!
I sloshed through the mud back towards the spot the dragon crashed the night before. It was fairly easy to tell where he landed. There was a large, Skrill sized crater that was mostly filled with water.
After scanning the site with my eyes, I saw three discarded arrows. I picked them up, careful not to touch the actual sharp part, and examined the tip. I sighed with relief when I didn't see the green substance known as “Dragon Root” on the tip.
I faintly recalled Dagur once saying, and I quote, “I never liked those Dragon Root arrows. Seemed like cheating to me. I hate cheaters.”
So, it seemed highly unlikely that he would use it. I don't even think they discovered Dragon Root before Ryker and Viggo came into the series.
I took the arrows and dropped them in a secluded part of the yard. I kicked mud over them, then stood on top of them and stomped them into the ground.
It was just a little bit excessive, but it was fun. I didn’t want my sisters to find random arrows in the yard… Oh crud, my sisters!
By now, mom should be at work, and if they wake up and find me and mom gone, they’ll freak out.
I ran back to where I left the dragon and started speaking to him. “I need to go inside for a while, okay? When I come back, I’ll have some stuff for your leg and some fish. Does that sound good?”
He nodded but also made a sad noise in the back of his throat.
I hugged his face. “It’s okay. I’ll be back soon, promise. Just stay here.”
With that said, I ran through the back door. The house was quiet and dark, most likely meaning my sisters were still sleeping.
I stopped in front of one of the mirrors in the house. I looked like a mess. My hair was muddy and tangled. My pajamas were soaking wet and smudged with mud. I had dark circles under my eyes, and I just generally looked like someone who had just spent the night outside.
I rushed to the room my sisters share. Their names were on their door, Bella's being in glittery silver letters and Naomi's in dark green letters. I poked my head in, and thankfully, they were both sleeping.
I sped towards the shower and rinsed myself off as fast as I could, brushing out my hair and throwing on a random hoodie when I was done.
I ran back to the kitchen and grabbed my phone on the way. Once I was in the kitchen, I checked the schedule on my phone just to make sure I didn’t have anything to do.
Nothing was planned for that day, and I thought I was lucky, until my eyes drifted to the next day and I decided the world hated me. I was starting ninth grade the next day.
Oh no, no, no, no, no, no. Why, why, whyyyyyyy? Why tomorrow? How am I going to watch a Skrill while in school? I panicked.
For a brief second I wondered what it would be like to ride a dragon to school, but quickly dismissed it out of fear of someone taking him away.
Let’s just say, that I’ve watched enough movies to know that if the government finds anything new, they will try to hunt it down*cough* Sonic the Hedgehog *cough*.
The thing with me and time in general, is that I don’t go with a plan, I just wait until it’s happening to worry about it.
That being said, I promptly shoved the idea of school out of my mind and started looking for fish in the freezer.
I finally found some and put it on the counter. Remembering the first aid stuff, I ran to the medicine cabinet and grabbed what I thought I would need, praying that I didn’t end up poisoning my dragon.
I grabbed everything I needed, including the fish, and headed back outside.

I did it! I stopped procrastinating! I know this chapter was short, but get used to it. Some of the chapters are gonna be short and others are gonna be long. Anyway, I don't think this chapter was as cringey as my first two, but if it was, I'm sorry! Origin out!
