Meg's POV
For the most part, the next week was uneventful. My whole family worked on unpacking, and come that Thursday, we were almost completely done. But now it is Thursday, and I have to go with Mom to set up my school schedule.
"Come on, Meg. We don't want to be late!" Mom yelled up the stairs. "Coming!" I say, walking downstairs into the foyer. "Great. Let's go," She says, walking to the cars. The drive was short and sweet, which will be great during the year. It will mean that I don't have to wake up so early.
Once we get there, we walk inside and meet the lady at the front desk. "Hello, what can I do for you guys?" She asks. "My daughter, Megan, is starting here in the fall and needs to become enrolled as well as register for classes." My mom says.
"Oh, of course! I got your file this morning Megan. The guidance counselor will be here in a couple of minutes to help with your schedule. Meanwhile, the principal is ready for you to complete the enrollment process. Her office is down that hallway and the first door on your left." The lady explains. "Thank you," I say, following Mom to the office.
"Hello, I'm assuming you're Megan and Mrs. Robbins. It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Mrs. Williams. There are just a few things we have to go over before we can register Megan for classes." Mrs. Williams says. "It's lovely to meet you as well. That sounds great." Mom answers politely.
"Great! Let's get started." Mrs. Williams responds. I quickly zone out while Mom signs the paper, and I only start listening again when the principal starts listing the rules.
Shortly after that, we walk back outside the meet with the counselor about my schedule. "Hi guys, my name is Mr. Daniels. I'll be helping Megan set up her schedule." He says, shaking my mom's hand. He quickly explains that the school runs on a block schedule, which means we have four classes a day with lunch in between, and then he starts to talk about classes.
"Since Megan was an AP student at her old school, I'm assuming she'll want to continue that here." He looks at me for confirmation, and I nod. "Alright, great. We have three AP classes that you haven't take: AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, and AP English Literature." He informs me. "Is it possible for me to take all of those?" I ask.
"Well, yes, but I was assuming you'd want to be a part of the band based on your previous schedules, and that conflicts with Statistics." He says. "I don't want to do band this year, actually. So I'll take all of those." I tell him.
"Okay, and you have one final period both this semester and next. I see you haven't taken a foreign language, and that is required to graduate here. We offer French, Spanish, and German." He says. "I'll take French. Is that a year-long course as well?" I ask. "Yes, ma'am. This is what your schedule looks like." He says, sliding a piece of paper to me.
1st period: AP English Literature (room 215) - Mrs. Edwards
2nd period: French I (room 300) - Madame Danson
3rd period: AP Calculus (room 185) - Mr. Stewart
4th period: AP Statistics (room 187) - Mr. Fredrick
"Does everything look good?" Mr. Daniels asks. "Yup," I answer. "I will get that loaded into the system in a couple of minutes, and you guys are good to go. The first day of school is on August 15, and school starts at 7:45. But on the first day, we go to homeroom for a little. It looks like yours is Mr. Roberts." He says, writing down the name and room number onto the bottom of my schedule.
"Okay. Thank you," I say as I start to get up. "Of course. This is yours to keep, and I'll see you the first day." He says, handing me the schedule. "See you then," I say, smiling. I turn around and start to the car with Mom next to me.
"That was short and sweet," Mom says when we get in the car. "Yup. I'm glad too. I'm almost done setting up the library, and I want to go looking for a seat to go in the window area." I respond. "That sounds like it'll be fun. I'll get your dad to give you some money. Just be careful." She says. "Of course. Thanks, Mom," I answer.
When we arrive home, I go back to the library and finish putting the books in order. I was going to put them alphabetically, but I changed my mind halfway through and sorted them by author and series. By the time I finished, it was going on four o'clock, so I went back downstairs.
"Mom, I'm heading out now," I told her, moving towards where she sat at the kitchen table. "Okay, sweetie. Your dad gave you some money on your card, and I would like you back by 9 if possible." She responded.
My mom had always been like this with me. Because I kept her so updated with my life and school, she started to become lenient with me. Kade, on the other hand, was definitely the problem child. "Of course. I'll let you know if I run late." I responded. "Have fun." She said as I walked to my car.
I put in the address for the closest mall and turn on the radio. I drive the whole way trying to understand my surrounds. My parents have always been the suburb type and this town was no different. But we were fifteen minutes outside a major city, which is weird for my parents. Dad likes the city, but Mom is really against being anywhere near a city. Putting this all in the back of my mind, I arrive at the mall and find a parking spot.
So chapter 3?? Next chapter, Meg meets some new friends and we see her start to enjoy herself. Let me know what you guys think!
