Greeted by The Big Crowd

The next morning I woke up with an extremely agonising headache. The bright light was shining through the blinds, and it was at this moment a tiny bit of the New York excitement finally hit me. I mean how could I not be excited? I was living in The Big Apple, after all. I sighed and threw a pillow over my face. I put out my hand on the nightstand to grab my phone. It was 10 am. How could I possibly wake up before my alarm!? I forced myself out of bed and went to get ready for the day, which was not too appealing. I tiptoed down the spiral staircase and was expecting my grandparents to be socialising in the living room, but surprisingly they couldn’t be found anywhere in the apartment and the only trace that was left behind them was a couple of tourist guides, a stack of bills and a note saying: Good morning sweetie! Me and John decided to go out and buy some new furniture for your room. Food’s in the fridge. Go and have yourself a little fun downtown.

Oh great, I’ve just been categorised as a tourist in my “own” city.

I grabbed my purse and left the house at brisk pace, not knowing where to actually go, so I whistled for a cab and when it came near the licence plate said fresh and had a dice in the mirror.   Very unusual, I thought to my self while I buckled up.

So, where do you wanna go Miss?” said the driver as he drove out onto the busy main street.

Well, I wanna go shopping and apparently there are some good shopping places around here, right?” I said inquiring.

A few.” said the driver sounding not so pleased by his choice of profession. “But I can take you to the home to some of New York’s most iconic stores, does 5th avenue sound appealing?”

I guess.” I replied through a sigh

The trip in was uncomfortable and unusually long. I started wondering if he was driving detours on purpose, and the inconvenient silence did not make things any better. I plugged in my headphones and rested my head against the cooling window. It was a hot day and the sun braced as we drove across the Brooklyn Bridge. Oh my, it is mightier than expected. A bunch of street musicians were spread out in each corner of Madison Avenue. Even though the driver and I didn’t connect on the same level, I thought today was a great day to be alive! Eventually the driver stepped on the brake and thank God this trip was over. I handed him 20 bucks and got out of the moist car as fast as possible. I fumble around in my purse to get a hand on these darn tourist guides, which I know are necessary but I am still skeptical about the prospect of having to use them.

Hm, where do I go next? I thought to myself after a while of strolling around the shops, sipping on my iced coffee. I definitely didn’t want to walk anymore, so I decided to sit down at the food court. When I was about to take the last sip of my coffee, three young girls came running across the food court. They were probably around my age and one of them wore a t-shirt with a pink bold bright text saying “Mentally Dating Nash Grier”. I laughed quietly to myself because of how creepy I thought these girls were. I watched them run out of the mall, or not just me but the whole mall watched these crazy girls leaving with their echoing high pitch voices. Was Nash Grier really here? No, I’m not excited… I think, but something in me felt a tiny bit of excitement. When I sadly finished my coffee I threw the empty cup in a bin and discreetly walked out of the mall the same way the girls did. I mean, if he was here I am not planning on walking up to him or talk to him or something because I didn’t know anything about him, and that would have been awkward…

I was greeted by the biggest crowd I’ve ever seen, girls in Nash’s merchandise screaming everywhere and security gards lined up like a wall to try to subdue the crowd. He won’t notice me, plus there was probably a hundred girls screaming their lungs out so nobody will notice me. I decided to Conveniently, I took myself halfway trough the crowd
