Fearless Three

Chapter thirteen

I kept my eyes closed as I my mind woke up. I listen to the sounds of a blue jay outside, quietly chirping. I listen to the wagons roll by and someone stomping down the hall way.

"Quite down!" I murder. I hear the door open and open an eye.

A very sad Dom stands there. "Ok, ok. Ok." he paces in front of me.

"Ok?" I close my eye.

"So you know Vana? Ya you do. Um, so, I was, um," I open my eyes and sit up,

"Yes?"

"Do you want to like, um. Well, ok."

"Oh. My. Gosh!" I laugh. Spit it out, stupid prince!

"Well, you only have three days, so I thought you would accompany me to a ball today. There all vampires, but if your with me, you'll be safe." I feel him sit on the bed.

"Um, no!" I laugh at the obviousness. "I told you it's better if we keep our relationship strictly business." I nod my head and open my eyes,

"Your probably right." he frowns. "So I will. As my servant, I will have you occupancy me to the dance in England. There we will dance together." he smiles.

"That's not business, so no."

"You must, I am your employer, you do it." he gets up and brushes a piece of hair from my face, "It'll be fun, Val."

"Mhm." I mutter, turning over into the pillow. He snickers as he leaves, I can't keep the smile from my lips. I hate him for saying those things about me, but I also love him. I do! I do love him.

I drag myself off of the bed and go into Sofia's closet. I search through all her gowns until I come to one I like. With my corset on, the top is fitted and sleek, at the waist it blooms into a beautiful gown. The top part is sleeveless and gold, the bottom has feathery layers that are a deep gold, the rim of each layer a dark blue. It looks great with me light blonde hair cascading down my back.

I look in the mirror once it's on and smile. Perfect.

"Wow!" Sofia glides in and stares at me, "You look..."

I curtsy and sit on the bed my dress puffing up. "Thank you!"

"I heard your going to a ball with Dominic!" she pushes my shoulder.

"Who told you?"

"Dominic!" she giggles.

"Okay." I shrug and lean back. "Should I?"

"The carriage is here, so go!" she pushes my back, but I keep still.

"I don't want to be near him, Sofia." I admit, falling onto the bed, she caches me and drags me to the entrance.

"Oh well!" she laughs and skips away as another figure rounds the corner.

His mouth drops open and his eyes widen, 'Hi."

"Hi." I give a pathetic wave as we walk out side,

"Val, you look-"

"Look," I cut him off, "Let's just get this over with, Dominic." his lip trembles slightly and my heart melts, "Dom." I correct, sitting in the carriage.

"Sorry I have to drag you to this." he shrugs and looks out the window. I watch the reflection in his eyes and fight the urge to go comfort him.

The ride passes in silence, awkward silence.

"We're here, Sir." the driver says. We get out, he quickly puts his arm around my waist as a man walks by. The boy grins at me, Dom returning it with a growl. I can't help but feel happy, Dom jealous!

"Well, you'll have to stay by me, I mean, everyone's a vampire." he shrugs and opens the door for me. The room is a faint yellow, candles lining each wall. Couples dance in the center and a band plays on the side. He walks me to a wall where we stand. He shifts nervously on his feet.

"Yes?" I smile.

"Well, you see, I was wondering, um, if, um, you might, want to, ugh, dance?" he looks away embarrassed.

I shrug and head to the dance floor. He runs after me and takes my hand,

"I told you to stay with me." he scolds, trying to look angry.

"And am I with you now?" I smirk while stepping closer to him.

He smiles and puts his arms around my waist as the song plays. I rest my head on his chest and close my eyes. I listen to his heart beat matching the violin. We sway back and forth for the song. "Val?"

"Yes?" I keep my eyes closed.

"Do you-"

"Excuse me?" someone taps on my shoulder. I turn to see a girl there. She has shoulder length gold hair, one shade darker than mine, and is wearing a wavy blue dress. She's a bit taller than me and looks like she is used to having it her way. "Can I steal you away from your dance partner, just for this song please?"

"Oh, um," I look over at Dom. He has his jaw clenched and his eyes are narrowed, "Dominic?"

"Of course Courtney, just one song though." he gives her a weak smile. "Stay where I can see you, over there." he adds in my ear. I nod and go to the wall directly across from him. He nods as Courtney raps her arms around his neck.

I watch them dance together for a whole song. He smiles at her to nicely, she batts her long eyelashes to much! They even look to perfect together.

"Excuse me, M'Lady." I turn and see a man. He has nicely styled blonde hair and is wearing a clean black suite, "May I have this dance?"

I look over at Dom who is laughing with Courtney, "Yes." I nod and he takes my arm. Once we reach the dance floor, he lightly puts his arms on my hips and smiles. I rest my hands on his shoulders and can't help but smile, too.

"I see your human?" he lightly touches just below my eye.

I gulp, "Um, well, no, I , just, ugh-"

He lets out a light laugh, "I'm not going to hurt you."

I smile and laugh too "Sorry, yes I am."

"My names Matthew, what's your name?"

I tuck a piece of hair behind my ear, "Valerie."

"Beautiful name." he twirls me around, I giggle.

"Your a great-"

"Val, I'm sorry you had to leave, care to dance again?" Dom appears infront of Matthew and I. I get mad at the thought of him ditching me for Courteny.

"No, Matthew and I are dancing. Can't you see?" I laugh.

Matthew laughs with me and smiles at Dom, "Sorry, maybe after this song?"

Dom scowls at him and leans right where I was before. He stares at us the whole time.

Finally the song ends and Dom grabs my arm. "We will be leaving." he hisses in my ear.

"Write me!" I shout at Matthew as he waves goodbye. He nods and watches me leave.

"Valerie, I can't belive you did that! I mean, ugh!" he paces back and forth as we wait for the caridge. "Out of all the stupid things you've done, this is by far the stupidest. To dance with some strange Vampire who could have killed you at any second, oh my god!" he glares at me, "You scared me so much."

I blush and get into the caridge. "Sorry."

He smiles and steps into the caridge.

"Dominic!" Courtney runs over to him. He turns around and smiles at her. She batts her eyelashes and stands on her toes. Softly, she presses her lips to his and runs away. "I'll see you later, okay?"

He nods and smiles as she walks away.

Two can play at this game.
