Marina sat down on a waiting room chair when her mom and dad when to check in. She fidgeted with the ring, heart shaped that was covered in little diamonds, that her grandpa gave to her on her 12th birthday. She leaned her head back and started to cry. She remembered all the good times she had with him and even the bad times. What had just happened was a tragedy to her. Her grandpa just had a heart attack.

"He's in room 365. Here's a pass," The counter lady spoke.

"Come on Marina," Marina's mom called, and they left to find the room.

Marina's hands were shaking and she felt like she couldn't stand anymore. The door opened and she froze. Her grandpa was on the bed with breathing tubes in his nose. Marina couldn't move. She couldn't believe it.

Marina walked up to her grandpa and kissed the top of his head. He opened his eyes and turned to Marina. What once was a twinkle in his green eyes was fading and the smile that he once wore all the time was now gone. She started to cry again.

Her grandpa raised his arm up and touched Marina's face. Very weakly he whispered, "Be strong, Marina. Be strong for you mom and dad, and especially me."

"I'll try grandpa, I'll try," Marina replied and she tried to dry off her tears with her sleeve.

After visiting Marina's grandpa, they left the hospital. Marina got home and ran up the stairs, and into her room. She got in some blue shorts, a pink shirt, got her shin guards and socks and ran back downs stairs. She grabbed her water and put her cleats on.

"MOM!!" Marina screamed up the stairs, from the basement, "I'M READY TO GO TO PRACTICE!"

"Are you sure you want to go to soccer practice with everything that is going on right now?" Marina's mom asked, walking down the stairs, "You know I can always say that you can't-"

"Mom, I told you that I made a promise that I will be there for my team," Marina stated, interrupting her mom. "They really need me this time. We are going up against one of the best teams."

"Okay. If you say so," She replied as she grabbed her keys off the hook.

They got in the car and drove to the school, where they had there practice. Marina said bye to her mom and jogged to the field. All of her teammates were waiting for her. They all started to warm up and Marina was thinking, Is grandpa really going to be okay?

♡♡♡

BEEP, BEEP, BEEP

Marina's alarm clock goes off. She stretches her arm out to turn it off. She got out of bed and made her way to the kitchen.

"Good morning, mom," Marina mumbled.

"Good morning, Marina. How did you sleep?" Marina's mom asked

"Okay," She replied but she really wasn't. She was up all night worrying about her grandpa. She was always wondering if he was going to be okay. All my friends are going to know that something is off. Marina thought. When she was done with breakfast, she walked upstairs to her room to change for school.

When Marina got to school, she trudged all the way to her locker. When she saw her friend. She usually would go up to her but today she didn't. She didn't feel like talking to or interact with any of her friends today.

She turned to go to her first period class when she heard, "Hey M," her friend, Lily, shouted, "Over here!"

Marina didn't want to go over to her but she had to, unless Lily would see that there was something wrong.
"Sorry," Marina lied, "I didn't see you so I thought you already went to class."
