Janelle
The sound of my alarm clock woke me up. I shot out of my bed while the sound of my alarm clock rang in my ear. I sighed and rolled my eyes. I shifted my head to my clock that was sitting on my nightstand to the left of my bed. I hit the clock and the alarm turned off.
I rubbed my face and stretched my arms. I snatched the covers off of myself and slowly got out of my bed.
"Ugh." I groaned. Today is my first day at my new school. And I am definitely not looking forward to it.
Why would I want to switch schools in the middle of the semester like this? Like it wasn't hard enough having to listen to my parents fight for a year and then go through them divorcing and being forced to move across the country from California to Chicago.
I lazily walked to my bathroom. I took my wooden hair brush and began brushing my long, silky, dark brown hair. Once I was done with my hair, I took my toothbrush and brushed my teeth with my minty toothpaste. I rinsed my face off with water so I could wake myself up a little. Once I was done with my bathroom routine, I walked into my closet.
I opened the door and pulled out a pink tank top, a white and black vertically stripped crop top, black jeans, and pink boots. I slipped out of purple polka dot pajamas and put the outfit on.
I looked at myself in the mirror that I had on my wall. I put on some pink lip gloss for the finishing touch. Good thing I look good on my first day.
I walked out of my room and went down the stairs and into the kitchen. I fixed myself some breakfast. As I cooked, the kitchen filled with the smell of eggs and toast.
I sat at the dining table and ate the breakfast I made. I heard footsteps coming down the stairs.
"Hey Janelle." My dad said, walking towards me and kissing me on the forehead.
"Hey dad." I said, stuffing a fork full of eggs in my mouth.
My dad fixed himself some coffee and sat across from me at the dining table. We just sat there in silence. It was kind of awkward without my mom at the dining table. I looked over at the empty seat next to me and thought about why my parents even separated in the first place. What pointless things did they fight about that made them split up?
"Well dad, I'm gonna go to school now." I said, getting up and throwing my plate in the trash.
"Don't you want me to drive you?" He said, in a concerning tone.
"Nah. I'll walk. Thanks" I didn't wanna ride with my dad, knowing that it would be silent and awkward.
I walked out of the house and began walking to school. As I walked, many questions ran through my mind.
Is Valley Ridge High School even a good school?
Are the students mean?
Are the students nice?
Well I really didn't care about any of that stuff. It's just that being the only new student, in a new school, in a new state, in the middle of the semester. That's just a lot of pressure.
How am I gonna get used to all these changes? Well I better get used to it because my change starts right...now.
I swung the double doors to the school open, and all I saw was people. People everywhere. Cheerleaders, football players, nerds, geeks. Red heads, blondes, brunettes. It was an avalanche of students. I rolled my eyes and began pushing my way through the mountain of people.
I pushed a few people, but then I thought that was kind of rude so I switched to saying excuse me. "Um. Excuse me." I said to this boy with black hair. His back was turned to me and he was laughing with this girl. Alright, maybe he didn't hear me. "Excuse me." I said a little louder than before. And he still didn't move.
