It was my first day. I walked into the gates and already I was ankle deep in mud. I sighed and decided to carry on. After all, I was doing it to get in with year 12 blonde hair, blue eyed hottie Daniel.
Every step was sucking me into the mud deeper and I was about to scream when my eyes fell onto an angel in a even holier body. Daniel Greenford. He looked straight at me and my heart melted. "Hey Holly! Welcome to the ranch. I'm looking forward to seeing you on the track."
"I-I-I um sure, yeah!" My voice stammered and my heart pounded in my chest.
I quickly turned and walked away, thinking of how stupid I must have looked. There was a large wall of saddles and other riding gear. I passed through that room and looked for someone to ask what I should be doing. There was an old looking woman at a desk. "Hello there dear, who are you?"
"I'm Holly."
"Oh okay, follow me and I'll get you suited up''
I followed the woman to, what looked like a large mud pit surrounded by wooden fence. She signalled at a large horse in the corner
"This is the riding grounds and this is your horse, Sandy. I assume you know how to saddle a horse? If you need any help then be sure to let me know. Well I must be on my way now, bye!"
I waved and stared at this large beast I had to 'saddle'. What did that even mean and what did I have to do with it? The brown leather things on the wall probably had something to do with it so I trudged through the mud and reached out for the closest one to my arms reach. I turned and made my way back to the horse, or Sandy as she/he was called. I placed the largest gap of the leather thing over his/her head. (Let's just say it's a girl for now.) I then tightened the buckled on the side and lifted the large leather may onto the horse's back. I placed my feet in the footholds and smiled at how good I was at saddling horses. Not really a life skill if you ask me. I tugged at the leather strap, hoping that the horse would move it's arse and do something for my sake. It make a funny noise and before I knew it, I was flipped off into the mud. Covered from head to toe, I wrapped the strap around the post and looked for something to clean myself up. Oh wow. Daniel was standing only metres away from the washroom and I had to walk past him to get there. I decided to man up and walk past him, only slightly hiding behind trees and bushes on the way.
"Holly? Is that you?" Daniel chuckled.
Fuck sake. I knew this was going to happen.
"Um yeah. The horse kinda flipped me off and well... This happened." I blushed as I spoke.
"Well we better get you cleaned up."
Daniel grabbed my by the arm and started to rub off the mud with a cloth. He started with my arms and eventually got the worst of the mud off. I giggled and thanked him.
"Look Holly, if you ever need help or anything with the horses then tell me and I'll help you."
I trembled as I asked "Could you help me then? I thought I knew a lot about all this horse stuff but I guess not."
"Sure! No problem, I'll meet you in the riding ground in a sec."
OMG! As if I was going to be helped by DANIEL GREENFORD! My heart fluttered and I fantasised about his stunning blue eyes staring into my soul. His deep voice saying my name. "Holly. Holly? Are you awake?" I jumped suddenly as I realised Daniel was stood directly behind me. How embarrasing! He explained to me how to properly saddle the horse and how to climb onto it. "I'll get on with you if you want, to help you."
"S-sure why not?"
I climbed onto Sandy's large, strong back and felt Daniel's hands grip onto my waist firmly. I tugged lightly at the leather strip and the horse started to trot happily round the grounds. "Here, pull on the strap a bit harder and she will go quicker." I followed Daniel's advice and the horse started to speed up. Eventually, the horse was going quickly. I slowed her down (with the help of Daniel) and climbed off the saddle. "We should do this more often, it was fun."
I nodded, eyes as big as saucers as he hugged me. The scent of aftershave and manliness entered my nose as I hugged him tight. "Welcome to the ranch." He whispered in my ear.
