Wooyoung took a deep breath as he looked up at his school building. The last time he saw it, it was crumbling because of Yeosang and Jongho's fight but now there wasn't a scratch in sight. Everyone was fine, gossiping or chatting happily as Wooyoung walked through the halls. There was nothing out of the ordinary. He heard several complaints of headaches, but he didn't think too much of it.
He spent much of the day by himself, avoiding as many people as possible. His head stayed down in class, he avoided eye contact and he didn't dare utter a word. Yet it all came to a close when Yeonjun confronted him just before break. "What's wrong with you today?" He asked softly. "You haven't been to school in a while and you seem really upset..."
"I'm fine," Wooyoung replied unconvincingly.
"Wooyoung, is it something with San?"
Wooyoung turned to him with a glare. "Why does it matter?" He snapped. Yeonjun put his hands up in defence, taking a step back from him.
"Calm down, I'm just making sure. You guys haven't been to school in a few days and I'm just surprised to see you, that's all. If you want someone to spend break with, I'll happily-"
"Back off Yeonjun." The two of them turned around. Jongho stood there with his hand resting on his hips, a deep frown on his face as he glared at the oldest student. "Don't you have people to dress code or something? From the looks of it, you're in violation of the school rules with that sweater. Last time I checked, boys weren't allowed to wear crop tops. It doesn't work for you anyway." Yeonjun's cheeks fumed with embarrassment. His hands went to pull down his pink, cropped sweater as he stormed away, muttering a few things under his breath that simply made Jongho scoff. "He's so dramatic."
That just left him and Wooyoung. The older student fidgeted uncomfortably, awaiting Jongho's inevitable spat towards him. Yet to his surprise, he got quite the opposite. The younger rested his hand on Wooyoung's shoulder, gazing not with malice, but concern. "Are you alright?" He asked with odd sincerity.
Wooyoung nodded at him slowly, still unsure of where exactly this was going. To his surprise, Jongho gestured the blonde to follow him, which he cautiously agreed to, ready to sprint away at any given moment. The two students made their way up to the school roof, greeted by beautifully clear skies and a nice morning breeze to set the calming atmosphere.
Jongho sat down on the bench just by the railing, and Wooyoung followed behind, sitting just a few feet away from him. When Jongho noticed the distance between them, he sighed. "How are you coping?" He asked quietly. Wooyoung only shrugged at him, keeping his eyes on his hands. "Crazy isn't it? And to think everyone just forgot about it."
"What do you want, Jongho?" Wooyoung finally asked. He looked up at the younger, his brows furrowed. "Are you just trying to make me feel better because you feel bad for me? Well I don't need your pity and I'm doing just fine! So if you have something to say, spit it out."
Jongho looked away, exhaling as if to gather his breath for what was about to say. "Do you know how nice it feels to not be at the bottom of the food chain?" he muttered. His gaze was still averted, looking at the floor rather than Wooyoung. "And I hate myself for taking so long to realise something so basic, but I shouldn't be targeting someone just because they're weaker than me or because I'm bored or for any reason."
He sighed, finally turning to the older boy. "What I'm trying to say is - I'm sorry Wooyoung. I'm sorry for being so awful towards you at the start of the year and for spreading around that demon rumour about San." Wooyoung didn't respond. At least not yet. When Jongho thought his apology wasn't accepted, he stood to his feet, ready to leave, but Wooyoung called him to sit back down.
