My eyes lit up with joy.
There was a huge grass field with 16 girls, besides us. There were also some older women that should be the camp's counselors.
"Why is it so empty? I thought there'd be more people."
"Somethings off.."
"Gather around girls!" A voice called. "Hello ladies, my name's Parker and I'm the camp's director and also one of the counselors. I see some new faces, but don't worry, we'll make sure you have a great time. You will be separated by cabins where you'll sleep. It'll be groups of 4. Please direct yourselves to the tables at the back to check your cabins' names. Each cabin has the name of an animal so you must know yours. As you can see, there are less participants this year. Worry not. Tomorrow morningyou will meet the rest of them."
There were whispers and mumbling everywhere. "So that's the reason..."
"I wonder if they're some especial guests", "Maybe they're famous! Wouldn't that be awesome?""Alright, alright... settle down ladies. This is all for now. Please go check your cabins' names and unpack or at least leave your bags there. Come back here in about 20 min so I can show you girls around."
Everybody did as told. We were really lucky. The four of us were in the same cabin. It was called «Woodpecker» and it had one engraved on the door.
The cabin was much bigger than I thought: it had four individual beds, four dressers, each with four drawers and a bathroom with toilet, bath, shower and sink.
"This is nice!"
"I don't think I'd mind if I had to stay here for longer than a month."
We unpacked and got back outside. Parker started walking and we all went after her. She showed us around the camp. It's huge! I swear this could be like one of those tiny countries in Europe. It has the cafeteria (obviously), a picnic area with tables and some grass we can lay on, a lake with a dock with some canoes and small boats, a baseball field, a soccer field, a basketball field and a tennis court.
"Last but not least, the skateboarding area."
This is just getting better and better. I swear this place is like Heaven on Earth. I know I just got here and all but I don't want to leave. Like, ever.
"OMG!"
"This is just getting better!"
"We'll get to skate here!"
"This is awesome!""I'm glad you enjoy it. The tour is finished. You can all go and take another look around while we prepare lunch. I'll see you girls at twelve thirty sharp. Don't be late!"
And guess what we did. We went to get our boards and went to skate. These are going to be the best summer vacations ever!
The rest of the day passed by in a blur. In the afternoon we made some keychains with colorful beeds at some kind of art class and went swimming afterwards. For dinner, we had handcraft burgers with homemade lemonade. Since there was still some time before the curfew we went to the picnic tables for a bit.
"So.. Who do you guys think they are?" Summer was actually pretty talkative the whole day. She started conversations with other campers beside us! They grow up so fast...
"Huh?" I wasn't really paying much attention. You know when you just ate and you get really sleepy? That's me right now.
"The other campers, you dumbass!"
"Winter, language!" Anna will be a great mom someday.
"I don't know. With all the mystery around their identity, I'd say they're famous."
"Maybe... Or maybe they're som-"
My head was already in the clouds, they were talking, but I wasn't listening. I found myself thinking about him again, where he was, what and how he was doing.. I take my necklace's pendant in my fingers. Feeling it's cold silver and shape usually makes me relax.
"-rtha... Martha.. Martha!"
"Huh? Oh! I'm sorry... I must've zoned out."
"Is something wrong?"
"No, no, I was just thinking.."
"About...?"
"It's nothing, guys! Don't worry, I'm fine."
"You're lying. We know you. We can see right trough you, girl. Now, spill out!"
I stopped a bit. I never told them about him. He wasn't here so I never thought there'd be any reason for me to talk to them abou it. They would get mad if I didn't tell them, but it's hard. Yet, they're my bestfriends and they're very important to me and I don't wanna loose them too.
"I guess there is no reason for me not to tell you..."
