White noise filled the absence of noise in the room drowning out everything creak of wood, squeak from the springs in my moms mattress, every rustle of the blankets. Fat teardrops cascaded down my face, I stuck my tongue out to catch the salty, warm water. My father slowly released the pressure on my neck. Blood tainted everything from the gash in my mothers head. He looked down at the ground his blue eyes crazed and swollen. He crooked finger his towards me, beckoning me to come closer.
"See honey? She's just asleep. She'll wake up anytime now Everly," his southern accent was thick and his voice was unsteady, he seemed to convincing himself rather than me. He had his hair matted with blood that covered his overalls too. His feet bare.
He slipped off the bed then reached a hand under each shoulder and drug her to the door.
When he left I ran out of there and deeper into the house to the cluttered living room. My memories flooding my mind as I passed the coffee table, ran through the kitchen and into my room. It was a mine field and I still felt as though the opossums never fled from under my bed. Pain surged through my foot. My foot was wet? Blood. I yanked the piece of glass from foot with disdain as the coppery scent filled my nose. Reaching under my pillow I felt my hands hit a cold, solid block. I flipped it open and dialed 911, my hands are shaking!
" Everly I need you to help me by cleaning this up while I go to town for a minute okay?!," he yelled from the kitchen arousing tremors of panic to rack my small frame.
I choked back a sob and replied with a short ' yes sir!'
The dispatcher told stay there and everything will be fine then it all went dark.
