Chapter 5

A knock on the door in Werbell's office was heard as an officer opened the door to tell him that an ambassador from the Reich and from the US has arrived to see him. He raised an eyebrow contemplating on why would an ambassador from the Reich would be here. Werbell ordered the officer to let the Reich ambassador in. The officer left the room and after a while, the ambassador entered the room. Both men shook hands and sat.

Ambassador: It is good to see you Sir Werbell.

Werbell: It is good to see you to, may I asked on what would be your business on being here?

Ambassador: I would like to thank you for accepting our offer even if we were a bit sketchy.

When those words came out of the ambassadors mouth, Werbell remembers what he said earlier and he has fucked up. He has to find a way to reverse this to his only liking.

Werbell: Of course, however I unfortunately changed my mind on some parts of the offer.

Ambassador: Which one?

Werbell: The part of sending an Expeditionary forces. You do know that most of my boys are ex-military mostly from the OFN and I am not sure how they'll be treating an entire division or even small as a battalion in there with them.

Ambassador: I understand that. The reason why we added that is that some of our reports states that some of our citizens have been kidnapped. A few months back, a student group decided to go on a expeditionary trip through Siberia, documenting the surrounding areas, wild life and locals. Their last stop was here in Magadan and we all know what happened. The student's family called us and we decided to take action.

Werbell couldn't help but feel sorry for him and for those students. However even with his reason and plea, he is not willing to start a crisis thanks to some taking revenge for their lost ones. However, he sees an opportunity, if he is able to rescue these students and return them safe and sound, this could be a the best PR stunt ever and could help his business expand.

Werbell: Ambassador, although I'm not allowing any Expeditionary forces in, rest assured that we are going to find and rescue those students.

Both men found an agreement and shook hands

As the ambassador left, it was time for the US. This time however he agreed. Werbell really didn't have a choice since the US was his major sponsor and its still a long way for his country being independent of resources. The ambassador told Werbell that the US is curious and concerned about the other side and what they were doing there on the other side. They wanted an interview to which Werbell agreed on. After the interview, the US ambassador soon left. Werbell started thinking on how he could rescue these students, get these resources that the Reich wants and maybe even sell it to everyone. After a while, another knock on the door as an officer walks in with a letter from the other side. The letter states that one of the troops has committed insubordination and allowed civilians inside the group as refugees. This is an opportunity, not only can they understand more of the other side and an idea popped into his mind. If possible, they could negotiate in opening a trade partnership with them although they have to find a way to end hostilities. Werbell tore the paper and told the officer that this soldier is now in charge of these refugees, with his words the officer nodded and left the room. "The pieces are set and now the games begin." He said to himself as he continued with his daily work.

In a certain village, a waitress is telling her story on how these strange men from another world saved her and her family. No one believed her thinking she was just another crazy woman who wanted attention. Across the room, Princess Piña and her team were on a secret mission to Alnus hill, one of the two men told the other to be silent because he was being too loud. Piña told them both to be quiet and allowed Hamilton to continue, "The rumors are spreading like wildfire." She explained, "While evacuating Coda village, a band of mercenaries in green and brown clothing succeeding in driving away a Flame Dragon." One of the men were doubtful, as if there were still things like those exist until the waitress walked towards them "It was the real flame dragon, miss," she said. Hamilton asked her if they could know more about these men who defeated the dragon. The mistress was doubtful if they would believe until Hamilton showed her some money and said that she believes her in which she quickly grabbed it off her hands. She continued "That day, when the dragon attacked us, they came to save us. They brought giant iron weapons, rode in gallant, solid wagons, and were dressed in green and brown."

On the other side Mitchel and his team have returned from their mission. However they were currently suspended and waiting for a discharge, the refugees still waiting and wondering what's going to happen now. A man walked towards Mitchel stating that the Major wants to talk with him again. This was it, his resignation. As he entered the room, a piece of paper was in front of him "Do you know what this is?" the Major asked to which Mitchel replied "Yes, sir. It's my discharge isn't it." To which the Major replied, "No, Werbell has given you an opportunity. It has been approved to bring in the refugees in as humanitarian grounds. As such, you are to provide for and observe the refugees. You are now our main provider of information and be given the freedom to act in the near future, do you understand?" There was a sigh of relief and with a nod and a salute, he exited the room and returned to his team with the news. They all started to bring out supplies and shelter to the refugees Mitchel's friends bringing out the food while the rest made tents for them.

The next day, Mitchel ordered the refugees to get out of their tents and make a line. Each of them ordered to tell their names. The kids told their names first. Then it was the wizard and the apprentice. Sage, Cato El Altestan (the wizard) and Lelei La Lalena. It was the Oracle's turn, her name was Roy Mercury, an apostle of Emroy, the god of darkness, And lastly was the elf they saved, Tuka Luna Marceau. After that was done, Mitchel, with the help of Lance, told them that they'll be making houses. As they built the houses, the refugees watched as these giant machines excavate to have space for their houses. Lelei roamed around, curious about these men from the other side and learning different words. After a while, their lunch was ready. The refugees were surprised, the soup and bread were delicious. By the end of the day, they were able to build two bath houses one for men and for women. Inside Roy, Lelei and Tuka talked to each other until Lelei mentioned Mitchel, which surprised Tuka. She started asking if he was the one who saved her, Lelei said yes. Tuka now wondered how she could thank them for saving her and as she also feels like that she doesn't belong here, both of them assured her that everything will be alright.

Meanwhile Princess Piña visited the place. King Duran, who had survived the battle, was staying there. Piña wanted information about Alnus, the king replied "Are you unaware of what happened? The imperial Army was done before the battle even started. The Emperor knew, yet called for the allied nations' armies anyways. He saw us as a threat to the Empire and used the enemy to destroy us." Piña was aware of what happened; Duran continued, "The allied armies fought until the very end. However, our true enemy was behind us." "Behind us?" she asked to which he replied "The Empire! The Empire was our real enemy!" Piña asked if he knew anything about the enemy, he responded "If you want to know, go to Alnus hill yourself." After that she left, before Alnus there was the city of Italica.

The next day ,Mitchel asked for a report. Yelena and Katarine replied "Everything is going well although Tuka is acting strangely." "What about her?" he asked, "Food, clothing, lodging, She always requests things that's adequate for two people. However, she leaves the second portion untouched and the clothes she request are always men's clothing." Mitchel asked, "Did you ever asked her about it?" Katrine replied "We did and so did Lelei, but her English nor Russian isn't fluent yet, so we didn't get far. I asked Mr. Cato but he said that she's very unique, even among elves even he doesn't understand." Mitchel sat down and tried to think until Louis entered in with his answer "Maybe she's has an imaginary boyfriend." All three of them look at him with confusion.

In the refugee camp, Roy asked Tuka if she assured Tuka that she was okay and if she enjoyed being there because it's much better than living in the forest. What concerned her is that one day, they'll have to fend for themselves again. She's even scared that she might have to sell herself to these men. Suddenly, they heard breathing. They looked to see it was Lelei wearing one of their gear, she took it off telling them to follow her. In a nearby field, they could see a graveyard of dragons from where the imperial army fought the USR "Mitchel said we can take as many dragon scales as we please." Tuka was shocked because dragon scales worth a lot. Lelei responded, "The USR has little interest and there is no need to sell ourselves." After picking the scales, they placed them in a sack. There were four of them. However, the soldiers took one of them for inspection and the rest was placed in the half-track. Mitchel's team now had a new mission and that was to learn on how trade works in this place. "So, we've become a delivery crew?" Karl asked, "Don't say that Karl, it's more like a new mission. We're here to see how trading works here." Mitchel replied. Lance said, "So we're now merchants." "Student merchants," Mitchel replied which made Lance groan. Dimitry started praying, hoping they don't get to any trouble. Roy and Lelei entered the Jeep, Tuka was hesitant in entering in with them "Lets go together, even if the flame dragon appears again, the people in green will save us, it'll be ok," Lelei assured Tuka. With that, she got in with them. Now, they were on the road again to a place called Italica.
