After a long few days and long few fights Gamenmae was destroyed, Leviathan had been defeated and Brainy had been saved at last. Now their only problem was Lex, as he had now used Lena’s project ‘Non Nocere’ to brainwash half the Obsidian users into following him and doing anything he said at all costs. Lena had enlisted the help of all the super friends to come up with a plan to end her brothers war path once and for all.
Days later after Brainy had been 100% healed the Super-team decided to get to work. Everyone was still a bit concerned about Lena joining the team, well everyone besides J’onn because his Martian mind knew her intentions. They spent weeks trying to find a way to end Lex, but nothing could work besides killing him, or so they thought. Kara was the only one to know that the only way the bald Luthor would stop what he was doing was if Kara sacrificed herself to save the greater good.
…
7 minutes. 7 minutes was all it took for Lena’s heart to break all over again. A 7-minute fight between her estranged brother and the alien she had been in love with for 4 years broke her as bad as half of Kara’s ribs. Why did Lex have to hate Kryptonians so much? And why wasn’t the anti-kryptonite suit working? Lena didn’t want to stay away from Kara at the tower, she needed to come stop Lex herself, and the only way she knew how – the same method as a year ago. I need you Kara. I need you to live another day so I can tell you how much I love you, please… Lex had Kara pinned to the ground with one of his designer dress-shoes, a very familiar kryptonite sword gripped above his head. Lena stood there in shock, but her voice still worked and had a mind of its own, “Lex! Lex! What the fuck are you doing!”
“Why hello dear sister, I thought you might want to come watch the show. Want to watch the Kryptonian die?” Lex drawled with a smirk painted on his face. Lena was frozen, again every fibre in her being rebelled to shoot the other Luthor again but she had to, to save her. The words Do this for Kara kept playing on repeat in her mind. Kara. She needed to stop Lex to save Kara.
“That’s where you’re wrong brother, I’m here to see you die.” Lena spat back as she raised the gun, pointed at Lex’s chest. Bang. It was all a sense of déjà vu from a year ago as Lex fell back once again, clutching his chest as the kryptonite sword landed with an echoing clatter metres away from the bald-man’s hand.
Lena just started talking to Lex as if he were not dying and it was a normal conversation, “Remember when this happened a year ago, you broke my heart,” the youngest Luthor let out a watery laugh, “You told me that my best friend was National City’s resident hero and you called me a fool.” Lex just watched her with widened eyes and his mouth forming a perfect O while Kara lay on the ground not really bothered by the burning in her chest, she was just proud of Lena standing up to her older brother while he dies. She was so lost in her proud thoughts of Lena that she missed half of their conversation but catching the most important words, the end of it, “I shot you again, hopefully for the last time, to protect the people I love, including that amazing woman between us. Goodbye Lex.” Kara could almost see Lena’s bottom lip quivering as she looked down at her.
Kara noticed the tear tracks that ran down her pale cheeks, her heart was breaking for Lena and for every emotion etched on her face. She did not notice Lex reaching for the now discarded gun, aiming it at Lena.
Bang!
…
The first thing Lena saw when she woke up was the blinding lights of the DEO hallway, and a heavy weight on her hand. She wanted to close her eyes for longer, but curiosity got the better of her for what was on her hand, looking down she noticed a head of blonde curls resting on the side of her bed. Kara. Kara’s alright. The last thing she remembered was the sound of a gun, probably the gun she had dropped after shooting Lex, then everything dipped to black.
Lena groaned attempting to sit up on the bed, but she slid back down from the shooting pain in her stomach. Upon hearing Lena groaning, Kara whipped her head up and it felt like the first-time blue met green, well more like bloodshot blue meeting green. Lena’s heart broke for the sight in front of her, with purple bags under the super’s eyes, assisted by the red and puffy eyes that ruined the baby blue of her irises. Kara gaped like a fish looking up at Lena, her Lena.
“Lena.” It came out as a croak crossed with a sigh. The Luthor groaned as she attempted to sit up once again, “Lena, stay still, I’ll help you.” The super jumped up and suddenly Lena had like five pillows behind her, while Kara aided her to sit up.
“Kara, sit down please, I’m fine but thank you.”
“I’m so glad that you’re awake Lee. I can’t tell you how much I have missed those emerald eyes.” Lena felt her heart rate quicken at this admission.
“Kar- I-,” her stupid gay brain wouldn’t work for her, boxes Lena, boxes, okay Lena.exe works now “How long have I been out and what exactly happened? My mind is still a bit fogged. My stomach hurts like a bitch and I remember a gun going off, so I’m presuming that Lex shot me?”
“Lena I- I uh- you scared me to death. I’m still processing the fact that you’re awake so just give me a minute.”
“Of course, darling.” Lena smiled softly at the blonde.
A few moments later Kara started speaking again, “Okay, I’m all good now. Well, you’ve been out for about eight days and yes, you’re right. After you dropped the gun and paid attention to me, Lex wasn’t gone yet, and he had enough strength to pick up the gun and he shot you. I am so sorry I couldn’t save you this time Lena. I am so sorry.” Kara’s shoulders shook as she sobbed beside Lena.
One of the perks of Kara’s height is that Lena could easily grab Kara’s head and press it to her chest to hopefully help her, “Kar, you didn’t do anything wrong. Lex had the kryptonite sword, and you were weakened, you couldn’t have saved me so it’s ok.” The Luthor took a deep breath before continuing, “It’s ok, just let it out darling, I’m here. Just listen to my heartbeat. Shhhh.”
Everything else could wait, Lena just needed to be there for her aching Kryptonian.
Love is pure, the only treasure.
