All his life Beaufort Akemi Anderson was taught that mates were supposed to be two halves of a whole, a safe haven for each other and the missing puzzle pieces that seem to fill the empty spaces and complete each other. He was constantly reminded that finding your mate was a nothing short of a miracle- because Fates didn't bless everyone with a mate -and that he should cherish the person with all his heart, for they were made for him and him only.

Well, whoever taught him that was full of shit.

He found his mate, just like any other Were species, at the conspicuous age of 18. He had dreamt of his mate for so long-for so, so long- he really thought he would meet them and they'd dash off into the sunset for their happily ever after. His mind couldn't conjure any other possibilities except the one where his mate would love him unconditionally the moment they met and take him into their arms the instant they'd find that he was their mate.

How naïve was he? Very, it seems.

To his utter surprise and horror, none of that happened. It was quite the opposite actually. Never in a million years did he ever fathom that his mate would be a male human.

He could deal with the male part, considering werewolves held no prejudice regarding their mate's gender. Plus he had two dads, after all and they both loved him dearly. It was the human part that irked him every time he thought about it.

Human. Even the word sounded vile in his mind.

It wasn't that Weres only had other Weres as their mates. Many even preferred human mates rather than their own species. What appeals to them about humans, he would never understand though. They were the reason many of his kind were being killed for no reason except for the fact that they were different from the humans.

They were greedy, savages and just vain creatures who saw nothing wrong with killing someone just because of their skin color. They raped others just because some are weaker than them. They created wars to fuel their own objectives and invaded other's territories for more power. In short, he hated- no, he loathed- humans.

He could never bring himself to trust a human. You never know when they would throw you under the bus to save their own hide.

But alas! The Fates had to be extra creative and make a human his mate. Unbelievable. That was the only word to describe it. He had to wonder what the Fates were even thinking when they were pairing him with a human. Did they really want murder on his hands so much? Did they really have some screws loose?

He didn't even really know whether to be happy that he had found his mate- something people thought to be a wonder- or be pissed at the Fates for giving him a human mate.

And that's not even the worst part. The worst part is that his mate didn't even know he existed. The Fates must be a bunch of really cruel sadistic bitches. What had he ever done to deserve this? A number of things pops up in his head but he quickly shakes it to rid of the thoughts. They weren't that bad enough for Fates to tie him to a human.

And the cherry on top was the fact that his mate was already in a relationship with his girlfriend. The dude wasn't even gay! Could it turn out any better?

And the answer to that seems to be, yes. Yes, it can.
