A day passed by quick- sooner than Seokjin expected it too.
Now, he was standing in front of his room's half length square mirror (which had a crack on the corner) and checking his outfit once more.
Jin didn't have much money to buy expensive clothes from shopping malls- whatever he got were from thrift stores or from the yearly sales in the cheaper shops. However, he knew how to dress decently.
This interview was going to be important. It wasn't just any interview. Like the one he had to have before becoming a staff in an antique store that sold everything from salt shakers in watermelon shapes to low quality baby diapers with oranges on them (something Jin couldn't yet understand the point of- why would diapers need to have oranges for a design?)
He had selected a mustard yellow shirt and the one pair of jeans he had (and that he wore for the entire week- it was the only expensive thing he had bought- from Levis), for the interview. Combing his hair so that his bangs fell down neatly on his forehead, Jin was ready to go.
Not having any portfolios to carry or a resume- not even a graduation degree- he knew he had to attend empty handed.
"Jin? You are ready, dear? Breakfast is done!" His mother calls from the kitchen.
Looking at himself one more time and giving a self assuring smile, Jin headed to the dining room- which was the small space beside the kitchen with a round table and four chairs.
An empty plate with a few bread crumbs was in front of one chair- Jungkook's. He had to leave early for college. Jin sees a small Post-It note stuck beside the plate and he picks it up.
All the best for the interview, hyung! I know you would make it :) love you!
Smiling, he takes the empty plate and goes to the kitchen to help his mother.
She looks up from where she was transferring an omelette from the pan to a plate, at Jin.
"Oh my, you look so handsome! If not for your personality, I am sure you would get selected for your looks". His mother winks at him, looking at the good looking man that was her son.
"Mother! Stop it!" Jin whines, embarrassed by the compliment. He never took compliments well. He takes the plate with the omelette and heads to the dining table.
He wasn't sure whether he would be able to eat the egg or not. Food was something he could never say no to, yet now when his stomach was churning in nervousness- swallowing a bite would be a difficult task.
"Hey". Mother puts her hands on Jin's shoulder, lightly massaging it. "Don't stress much. It will be okay. Even if you don't get the job, it's going to be alright".
But that's something his mother wouldn't understand.
Yes, mother knew the numerous amount of times he had lost a job and had to search for one. But she didn't know what happened in between. How he had to clean dishes and floors in people's houses or help in the garbage disposing just so he could earn a bit of money to spend the costs for at least a day or two until he found another job. Then the cycle continued again.
And he didn't want this to happen with his Kookie too.
Yes, Jungkook was educated and he would graduate in a year with a degree- and hopefully get a good job. But it would take time. As much as people liked to say that if you work hard, you will make it- the bitter truth most times was that you also needed the money and the connections.
And he didn't want Jungkook going through whatever Jin went through everyday, just so he could afford some money for his family.
Jungkook had big dreams and Jin knew that if he got the job at the Royal Castle, the amount of money he would receive would be enough to manage his household and take off the oncoming stress from Jungkook's shoulders. His Kook would be able to search for a good paying job- or do whatever he wanted to do- without worrying about his supporting his family financially. A stress that Jin had since he turned 15.
