Douglas walks out of the shadows and to the middle of the room. Lily is pressed against the wall as I walk into the room. He stops clapping when he sees me. His smile grows as I step next to Lily and he turns to us fully.
"My beautiful girls. It's great to see your beautiful faces." He says to us. Lily slides to our drawer that is loaded with weapons. Ever since we got into shooting we've kept them close to us.
Illegally, of course. She stands in front of it with shaky breaths. I move closer to her as she takes out a handgun that is fully loaded. She hands it to me behind our backs as Douglas looks around.
"You two must really think I'm a dumbass. That I haven't figured out the little illegal gun stash that you have. Oh, my sweet little cherubs. I know, and those are duds. They don't work." He laughs as I tried to turn the safety off. I look up from my gaze at the couch to him.
He smirks and I feel my heart pound. He begins to walk closer to us. We back away from him as he continues closer.
"I'm not here to hurt you. Yet. I just want to talk. I brought you two something that you might remember." He says as he holds up a file with his name and ours on it. I grab the file and clutch it to my chest.
He laughs and sits back on the love chair with his leg crossed over the other. We sit on the couch across from him and I open the file. It shows pictures from when we were all 14. I look back at him and he waves his hand as if for me to keep looking.
"What the hell is this? I will kill you." I say as he looks between Lily and me. He chuckles as I look back down at the files. He changes his position in the chair and groans.
"Such empty threats from someone I've disarmed so easily. You remember last time, and how easy it was for me to throw you into that door over there." He says as he points to the small indent from my body. I glare at the wall, then at him.
We stare at each other before he gestures for me to look at the files again. I see how my parents, his parents and Lily's parents staged his death. How they planned to send him somewhere called HavenWood.
I see a small debrief about HavenWood.
A small facility where they experiment on teenagers for enhanced abilities. I gasp at the pictures of kids in rooms banging on the glass, kids with wires in them. I see a picture of Douglas laying on a table. Tears and fear in his bright brown eyes.
"Oh my god." I say covering my mouth. Lily tears up at the sight. She shakes her head and stands up. She takes a few deep breaths. I look up at Douglas and see his grim expression.
"We mourned for you, but you weren't dead.' Lily whispers as she looks at him. He stares at me though.
"I woke up in a cold, empty, white room. Because your parents and mine thought I was the best candidate for their little experiment. I wanted to die while you two lived a normal life. I was tortured and used as a weapon,"
"And your parents died fighting for the cause Lily. That's the whole reason you were even living with Delilah."
"I escaped on my 18th birthday. And I made sure that your parents paid as much as mine did. They all deserved what they had coming to them. And I do not regret anything I did. Thus why I'm here. To make you and your friends suffer the way I did." He remarks smiling as he stands.
"What? We didn't do anything. Like i said, we mourned for you, you were our friend!" I shout as he walks toward the door. He chuckles as his hand lands on the knob.
"Oh, lovely. You're as clueless as they come. Along with you precious." He says as he points between me and Lily. He chuckles one more time as he walks out of the room. He left the files with us. Lily and I look at each other. We say no words. As much as I don't want to call him, I need to.
I dial Aaron's number.
"Delilah? I...Are you ok? Is Lily ok?" He asks. I groan and that stops him.
"I called for you to come over. That's it. We need to talk as soon as we can about Douglas." I say.
"Ok... Can we talk about us too?" He blurts out. I shake my head and cover my eyes. I can't handle talking to him about us right now.
"We'll see if you come over. And bring Marcus. He's a part of this too." I say and hang up before he says anything else.
I look at Lily and she looks at me. I decide to just, walk away. I step into my bedroom and close the door. I grab the picture of Aaron, Lily, and me in a park. We all were smiling.
Aaron holding my hand and his hand on Lily's shoulder. My heart breaks and I let out a small whimper. Tears drip onto the frame and I just close them.
