"This was a stupid idea." I mumbled walking around this abandoned building I had come across after looking for food.

"You think! What happens if we get attacked?!" My friend Asher whisper yelled at me.

"I thought they might be good stuff in here for us ya know." I retorted sneaking around a corner.

"Goddammit Hunter why do I always follow you everywhere." He mumbled.

"Because I'm irresistible." I joked laughing softly.

"Oh shut up." He said punching my arm lightly.

We snuck around quietly.
A bat in Asher's hand and an assault rifle in mine.

"Why are we here in the first place?" He whispered to me.

"I found this place on the outskirts of the safe point." I mumbled.

"Wait what!" He exclaimed softly, "We can't be so close to the death point."

"I know, but we are running out of resources here, we are kind of desperate here." I retorted.

He stayed silent as he peered over the next corner.

"Whats that?" I asked, pointing to something on the ground.

"It looks like a box." he muttered quickly picking it up and retreating back into the corner with me.

"Can you open it?"

"I might need something from the base to open it, its really tightly sealed."

I nodded pointing my head to the exit to be silent.

We ran back to our base excitedly making sure we weren't attacked suddenly. Our base being a small abandoned hut that we hd found, was like our to us, since we had been staying there for around 6 months. But I wasn't sure since loosing track of time was pretty easy in these circumstances.

I sat down looking at the box. It was slightly rusty around the edges, but the wood was still slightly smooth. A small hold lock locking it.

We got some pliers that we had found and it did not take too long to open.

Asher sat next to me excitedly, his eyes glimmering.

I slowly opened the box. A small book lay in the middle. It had no title. The outsides were rough and the pages slightly stained.

"Whats inside?" he questioned.

I opened it to find small writing inside.
"Damn, this is a lot of stuff." I gasped in awe.

"Wait wait stop." He said pointing at the page.

The page had one simple sentence written on it.

"We are not safe."

I looked at Asher both of our eyes widening.

"What does that mean?" he asked.

"I have no idea." I admitted.
