Intro Island: I pull over to a small wooden bridge on the side of the highway. The bike makes a n ear screeching sound but the unevenly tan women on an open air bus tour make a louder one. The east island fin raises shaking the ground and cracking the decades old pothole over again. To a tourist this is pretty cool an island that acts like a sea turtle without any scientific facts to back why. Most beileve it is the water reserves below moving in the wind. This isn't hard to beileve on a spring day in Gusaya always windy. But nevertheless, science be dammed the fin rise 16 feet every hour, on the hour. Alternating between the four fins and at midnight the head island lurches foward a 1/57th of a mile. Not news for me the local. Been here since I was abandoned at a DeStInAtIoN WeDdIng at age 2. Taken in by a group of Tunes. Which is Gusaya slang for old woman. 17 years old now 15 years of shaking on the hour, dares to go to the head at midnight and tourist that come from a designer line of cruise ships sent from Florida.
