My name is D.J, Diana Jane, Reid and I'm 17. I was named after my grandma, Diana. I don't remember her though, she died when I was 4 but my dad says she's amazing and he talks about her all the time. My mom on the other hand, I know almost nothing about. My dad never talks about her and neither does Aunt JJ or Emily, I only know her name is Cat and she left when I was born...Dad says she loved me in her own way but if that was true, how could she leave me before I even left the hospital? She's never even sent me a birthday card...but none of that matters, I have my dad, Aunt JJ, and Aunt Emily and we're a family. Plus, there's my best friend in the whole world, Jack, I mean we've grown up together and even have the same birthday although we're a year apart, I just wish he knew how I felt. Recently, I realized that I love him in more than a best friend kind of way, but ever since then I've just been so awkward around him. Aunt JJ even noticed although she didn't say anything, she just gave me her "Oh-I-See-What's-Going-On-Here" look. My dad would freak if I told him though, I mean he's friends and works with Jacks dad after all. Me and Jack both lost our moms in different ways although, Aaron got remarried to Beth, and my dad never did. Beth, is super cool though, we like to gossip about my dad, Aaron, and the team sometimes. There was one time we were just laughing so hard, soda came out of my nose. It's moments like those that I wonder what my mom is like. Is she funny? Smart? Does she have the same brown hair and blue eyes as me? But I will never know...you see, dad doesn't have many rules, only 8, but the ones he has are very important to him:1. No sleepovers unless dad knows their parents
2. Respect privacy and boundaries
3. Don't go through dads work stuff
4. Always lock the doors and windows and never leave the security system disarmed
5. Can't be out past 12am
6. No boys allowed over (Except Jack, Henry, and Michael)
7. Can't be home alone, especially when dad is away on a case.
and finally, his biggest rule,
8. Don't look for or try to contact my mom in any way.
I never understood rule 8 though, what could be so bad about her?
