A Court Of Thorns And Roses, Sarah J. Maas, Bloomsbury Publishing, 2015

Sarah J. Maas's book, A Court Of Thorns And Roses, is an adult fantasy novel, about young woman, Feyre Acheron and her struggles as she is taken into the 'cruel' realm of Faeries that reside behind The Wall.

Feyre Archeron, is a nineteen year old living her life peacefully in the Mortal Lands. She spends a lot of time hunting food that is necessary to her family's survival. When she kills the wrong wolf, she is taken prisoner by a High Lord. As Feyre gets taken further into Tamlin's life she develops the suspicion that he is hiding something bigger than just the claws beneath his skin. Feyre's infatuation with Tamlin tempts her to ignore every red flag she has heard about the High Fae. But when Feyre throws herself directly into the line of danger she's forced to fight her way out, even if it will leave unhealable scars.

I found the vocabulary used in this book beautiful and somewhat poetic. The description of all objects made it easy to delve myself into the story and I was able to picture everything, with ease. I especially liked it when Feyre described how she would paint things, and related the colors to her emotions, this is because it was easy to tell how Feyre felt without the author specifically saying it.

One of the things I didn't enjoy as much was some of the cliché romantic scenes and lines used. Like when at the end of the book Tamlin asks "How he can ever repay" Feyre for what she did, and she responds by telling him "doesn't need to". I found scenes like the awfully easy to assume and predict coming. Fortunately this didn't happen all to often and only really related to dialogue and not the story plot, which was exciting and thrilling.

With both the strengths and weaknesses I would say this was definitely still a brilliant book, and is one that I would recommend to mature readers 13 and up, but specifically to adults, only due to some mature themes.

I give this book four and a half stars- ★★★★✯.
