As the nurse finished wrapping Bucky's shoulder, the door to his room knocked open as Sam walked in. He smiled thankfully as the nurse left the two alone.

"I knew you'd pull through," he started, as Bucky pulled his shirt back over his head.

"Glad you thought of me," he replied sarcastically, his face suddenly falling. He looked up at Sam with knitted brows. "The building... Violet-"

He stood up from his bed, but bobbled. Sam moved to his side, placing a firm hand on his shoulder.

"Easy, we got her out, she's alive."

"Jesus, how long was I out?"

"Few hours. About as long as it took us to dig her out."

"Good... where is she? I gotta see her."

Sam went quiet as his expression turned worried. Bucky looked at him, waiting with a hitched breath.

"She's... just promise me you won't freak out," Sam let out slowly. Bucky nodded and nudged Sam towards the door.

"What the hell."

Bucky stood in front of a large, metal door, a thick window allowing him a view of the scene inside of the room: Violet, laying peacefully on a bed, engulfed in a golden orb of energy.

"Yeah, I'm not sure what to say either," Sam sighed, folding his arms over his chest.

"That's a first," Fury's voice drifted down the hall toward them, causing the two men to look up at him. Fury looked worn out, worried even. It wasn't like him to look so downtrodden.

"What's happening to her," Bucky asked, stopping himself from completely gushing out questions.

"Not sure, but the good news is she is alive and well. She put herself in some sort of... stasis. Like her own recovery pod."

"Stasis? She can do that," Sam questioned incredulously.

"Not that I was formally aware of," Fury grumbled.

"So what were you aware of," Bucky pressed. Fury's gaze hardened.

"Enough, but I'm not obliged to tell you a damn thing."

"And why's that?"

"Because I promised Violet that I wouldn't say anything. She wanted to be the one to tell you about herself."

Bucky looked a little taken back as Fury turned on his heel and retreated down the hallway.

There were no dreams this time. It was an empty, bottomless hole, and I wasn't going to meet the bottom.

Until I heard it.

The soft sound of a horn and piano began to pull me from the darkness. I felt my fingers twitch, then my lips, before I struggled to get my eyes open. Once I did, I winced from the fluorescent lights attacking me. I blinked a few times as the music got louder in my ears.

I licked my lips, and swallowed, feeling how dry my throat was. How long was I out? I moved my head to the side and nearly jumped out of my skin:

Bucky laid in a chair just a foot or two away from my bed, head nestled on a pillow wedged between his neck and shoulder, a blanket draped on him. He had bruising on his face, but looked fine otherwise. I looked over at where the music was coming from and noticed a device I wasn't familiar with.

"You're awake."

I turned my attention back to Bucky as he suddenly spoke, his eyes still closed.
