His partner was a big man. George wasn't exactly a miniature, but standing side by side with Clay, thinking that was not strange.
Towering over to him, the snickering and teasing coming from the younger was never missing. George just rolled his eyes at his boyfriend's childishness, already used to hearing his nonsense from time to time.
When they got the news about George's pregnancy, they were both ecstatic, especially Clay, starting to look down at his partner like he was a precious piece of fragile glass.
"I'm just pregnant, not sick. Stop acting like that." George said somewhat exasperated and a little bit amused.
But the truth was, that pregnancy hadn't exactly been a walk in the park. The first months were rather unremarkable, the nausea and random aching were awful, but also nothing George hadn't been expecting already. With the arrival of the second trimester, especially as it started to draw to an end, things started to go south.
It was a big baby. Boy, could he tell.
His body wasn't taking the size of his son very well. George was quick to deny his petite figure, even more evident when compared to his boyfriend, but now that his body was busy carrying a baby, who besides, seemed to take after his tall father, George's insistence had started to falter.
"Are you sure you're not carrying two babies in there?"
For some time George had suspected that, but when the confirmation came that it was not, that it just was a single well-developed boy, George didn't know whether to be relieved or concerned with the news. He didn't want to think about the moment when the child would finally have to exit his body.
His back ached and the weight and fullness in his abdomen were rather suffocating at times. As the countdown began to come to an end, the exhausting task of carrying the pregnancy became a constant and increasingly exasperating annoyance.
It was on an early morning in the completely dark room, when the discomfort of not finding a position where he could sleep in had kept him awake most of the night. George leaned against the back of the bed, one hand caressing his swollen belly as he heard Clay snoring next to him. The idiot, if only he too could have his turn in the wonderful experience of feeling like bursting with a huge baby crushing his organs.
He closed his eyes and sighed, hoping he could rest a little more at least before the sun came up, sleep enveloping him gently, filling him with a pleasant sense of peace as he felt himself begin to finally drift off to sleep. That was until a sudden contraction jolted him awake, cradling his abdomen with a gasp of surprise and pain.
When it finally subsided, George was left to pant slightly, shaken by what had just happened. It wasn't the first contraction he'd felt, his body was already preparing for birth and the Braxtons attacked his torso from time to time, but not like this, not so sudden, or as intense as to wake him up. George had the urge to reach out and shake his boyfriend awake, but he decided against it as he felt the baby squirm, changing positions the best he could in his cramped space, and at that George's lungs felt free to inhale deeply, as the child wasn't right under his ribcage anymore.
He just settled himself carefully against the pillows, his sleeping partner turning towards him and wrapping his arm over George's abdomen, hugging his wide waist and muttering something in his sleep. He sighed deeply, running his fingers through Clay's hair and resting the other hand on his baby bump as he closed his eyes again.
Clay was anxious and on edge practically all the time. His boyfriend looked about to pop and the baby didn't seem too eager to get out yet. George constantly complained about everything, aches and exhaustion and just being uncomfortable in general, and Clay certainly didn't blame him. The final months had been really rough for the small man, as the big baby in his body made going through life fairly hard for him.
