You had never really been in love. Evreyone expects it to be highschool, some whirlwind romance that ends in a heartbreak. Parents warn you about it but it's without real meaning because to them heartbreak is art, however painful.
It was a sunny wednesday afternoon when you first met, in line at some overpriced coffee store and he offered to pay for your order.
"do a kind thing for a stranger, it always comes back tenfold" he had told me then, and followed it up with an introduction "i'm Sonkey, i was wondering if i could get your number, no pressure of course"
it would have been creepy if he wasn't so painfully genuine. You smile and pull out a pen, marking your phone number onto his arm after he pays for both your drinks. Neither of you offer but you walk to the same bench and sit. You just met him but the 12 inches of space between you are strikingly visible. Both of you sip your coffee, too scared to make a move on this beer stranger. Too afraid to break that energy between you. Until he makes a move, his hand is suddenly touching yours, not grabbing, but light and comfortable.
"this okay..." he asks you, ending seeming abrupt and you realize you never game him your name.
"y/n" you tell him, "and it's better then okay' then he smiles and his hand dosent move from yours.
"sonkey and y/n, y/n and sonkey, it fits doesn't it" The blue haired man jokes.
it's a joke, you know it is but somehow it feels like a promise, an assurance this is more then some 1 in 100 chance, a story to gossip with your friends over. It feels like forever, infinity packed into a single moment, but you don't say that. You can't. You've only been talking for around half an hour so instead you smile, hand under his and eyes locked.
"they really do, don't they" you reply softly and it comes off more heartfelt then you intended. And suddenly you know why movies preach love at first sight because he could leave, this could be the mistake that ends the love story spiraling out in front of you.
But he doesn't leave. He laughs and puts his arm around your shoulder and you talk about the mundane for hours, and when it gets later you make a promise to call or text or meet up, you don't really remember now but at the time you would have done just about anything to see Sonkey again.
The relationship started faster then anticipated. It was still casual hookups or walks in the park, you never put a label on it and you didn't really want to talk about it. Just like the first day you met you were scared of Sonkey leaving but unlike all those weeks ago you knew you had to make the first move. You had to be brave and you needed to be dating, you needed it and you hoped he needed it too.
A/N: wow first chapter, exiting right. From now on all authors notes will be in the comments, i just didn't want you to miss the first one. This is a shorter first chapter and the next ones can be longer if you want. i'm also always open to requests and feedback so vote and comment 😌
