The green light of the Stellapent above bathed the Dead Forest in its green light. This night, it was doing something very curious. Very arcane. In the forest below, its light concentrated on Bog, the forest's most fearsome predator, who was holding his head in agony.
"WHAT'S HAPPENING TO ME?!" He yelled to nobody as he felt the starlight change him. His mad desire to kill faded away, his mindless urge to consume was replaced by something much more... human. When it was over and the star moved on, the forest became dark once again, save for the glow of two sorrowful red eyes.
"Oh my god..." Bog muttered to himself. "I-I- What have I been doing all these years?" He racked his memories, recalling the victims he's hurt, the people he's killed, the allies he's corrupted. He finds a puddle and stares at himself. A monster. A monster who's ruined everyone he's touched.
"Why... Why did I do all of this?! Can't I make up for it in any way!?" Bog cried out to the unfeeling forest. Just then, he remembered. The one victim that he hadn't killed nor corrupted. A man armored in gold. Instantly he knew that man was his one chance at redemption, if he even deserved it. He left the forest as fast as he could and took to locating him.
When he spotted a wooden cabin bordered by a field of flowers, he knew he was close. He ran right through the field, unaware of the flowers he was killing as he did so, until he came up by the window. He looked through and saw Gildedguy sleeping, his gold armor hanging off on a wall. Bog slinked over to the door and squeezed himself inside through the bottom. He creeped up as quietly as he could to Gildedguy and softly touched his hands when he got close enough. He looked at the palms to see if the scars from when they first met were still there. Sure enough, they were. In fact, they barely looked like they healed at all. He cringed at the sight, but that was interrupted when he felt Gildedguy start to move.
"HEY!" Gildedguy yelled and kicked Bog off him. He reached into a drawer on his nightstand, pulled out a lighter, and held it out in front of him, aimed at the downed Bog like a gun. Bog noted the expression on Gildedguy's face, a mix of anger and fear, a combination he would've found delicious previously, but now just made him want to run.
"One step closer and I drop this," Gildedguy told Bog. "I don't care if I have to burn the whole house down, I will do it!"
"It's okay," Bog managed to shyly whisper out, "I'm... not here to hurt you." Gildedguy relaxed for a nanosecond, but then went right back to holding out the lighter. "I wanted to apologize. To try and make up for the things I did to you. I'm a changed person, and... I'm sorry, I'm so sorry for everything I did to you. Could you find it in your heart to forgive me?"
Neither of them said anything for a few seconds until Gildedguy broke the silence.
"Are you stupid? Do you think I've forgotten everything? Do you really think I'm that gullible? Get out of my house NOW before I have to make you. And if I ever see you in here again, I will NOT give you a chance to leave."
Bog merely frowned and fled without another word. Gildedguy was caught off guard by how easily he left and patrolled the house and its surroundings for the next half hour just to make sure it wasn't a trick. After enough time, he sighed and went back to sleep. Yet he kept waking up over and over, disturbed by little noises, each time convinced Bog had come back for him. He was very drowsy when the sun came up the next morning.
After donning his armor and eating a light breakfast to appease his small appetite, Gildedguy left the cabin to head down to the town when something made him freeze in his tracks.
"Hey."
That voice again, from right behind no less!. He swung his sword and cut right through Bog's body. Of course he reformed without a problem, but he didn't counterattack at all. He barely even reacted.
