Bella pulled her truck into the driveway, the gravel crunching beneath the tires as she parked outside her home. As she stepped out, she spotted Emmet's jeep parked not far away. He waved enthusiastically at her, his bright smile visible even from a distance. She returned the wave, feeling a warmth spread through her despite the chilly weather.
Meanwhile, Dorothea was exiting the Swan house with Charlie by her side.
The mortal paused for a moment, taken aback by how much it still shocked her that the vampire had somehow managed to win over Bella's father. Dorothea shook her head in amusement, a soft chuckle escaping her lips as she exchanged a final hug with Charlie.
They both laughed, enjoying the moment before she pulled away, feeling his large, comforting embrace linger. "Okay, Thea. Don't be a stranger. Visit me more!" Charlie said a genuine smile on his face.
"You'll know you'll see me around. You can't get rid of me easily!" Dorothea teased, her smile playful and mischievous.
Charlie chuckled at the truth behind her words and waved her off. "Take care, kid."
As Dorothea walked down the stairs, she glanced back at him. "Before I forget!! I plan on spending Christmas here next year!" With that, she turned and made her way toward Bella, who was now standing in the yard waiting for her. Dorothea raised an eyebrow and spoke up, her voice light and teasing. "Your alibi for the battle is all arranged."
Bella looked up at her in surprise. "Really?"
Dorothea smirked. "I told your father that our whole family is going camping this weekend. So, we are having a sleepover at my house. Charles is going fishing anyway."
Bella blinked, a little taken aback. "Charles? Thea? You guys run on nicknames now?"
"Me, he likes," Dorothea said proudly, puffing out her chest. "I mean, name a mortal who doesn't like me? —No, wait." Bella's eyebrows rose. "I didn't know you were so charming with him."
Dorothea's eyes sparkled with amusement as she continued. "Actually, you and Edward will have my and Jasper's house to yourselves tonight. Jasper's not particularly fond of the idea, so do try not to... touch anything? Yeah, scratch that—just don't break anything. Most of our house is full of priceless historical artifacts. Jasper has quite the obsession with them."
Bella hesitated, her heart racing a little. "Like alone? Me and Edward... just us?"
Dorothea rolled her eyes dramatically, though her lips curled into a playful smirk. "Wow, Bella, short responses much? We're all going hunting and powering up for the battle." She turned her back on Bella, heading back toward Emmet. As she walked away, she made sure her voice carried back to Bella clearly, knowing her words would land: "You're most welcome. And I'm serious about the rule!"
