"What did I say about beauty sleep?"
Alice's sharp voice cut through the room the moment Bella entered, looking as exhausted as someone who had just run a marathon. Dark circles lingered under Bella's eyes, and she moved like someone carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Bella sighed, rubbing her temples before waving a dismissive hand. "Sorry, bad dream. It was just wedding jitters."
Dorothea, who had been perched on the armrest of a nearby chair, smirked. "Told you so."
Unlike Alice, who was already reaching for a set of makeup brushes like a woman on a mission, Dorothea had no business touching someone's hair or makeup. Her talents did not extend to the delicate arts of beauty transformation. Instead, she sat back, content to watch Alice work her magic while offering the occasional sarcastic comment when necessary.
Bella barely had time to sit before Alice was adjusting her face with firm but precise movements, tilting her chin this way and that. "You're lucky I planned for this," Alice muttered, already dabbing concealer under Bella's eyes. "You look like you haven't slept in a week. And you—" she shot a pointed look at Dorothea without pausing in her work, "—could try to be helpful."
Dorothea shrugged lazily. "I am helping. I'm here for moral support."
Alice huffed, shaking her head as she blended foundation with an almost aggressive level of focus.
Across the room, Charlie stood stiffly near a towering wall covered in framed graduation caps. He eyed them with open suspicion, his brow furrowed as he leaned in slightly, as if getting closer would help him understand why the Cullens seemed to be obsessed with high school.
Dorothea, sensing the perfect opportunity to escape Alice's wrath, pushed off the chair and casually strolled over to stand beside him.
Charlie didn't glance at her, still fixated on the wall. He pointed at it with a small, uncertain frown. "Are those... graduation caps?"
Before Dorothea could answer, Renee, who had been hovering nearby, perked up with a delighted gasp. "Oh! I was wondering the same thing!" She clapped her hands together, beaming. "Did you guys collect these over the years? What a creative way to decorate! I love it!"
Charlie, however, didn't look convinced. His lips pressed into a thin line, his arms crossing over his chest. "Or weird," he muttered under his breath.
Dorothea chuckled, amused by his reaction. "It's an acquired taste." Charlie shot her a skeptical look before shaking his head, muttering something about 'strange in-laws' under his breath.
