I remember the first day I saw her. She was a year younger than me but still acted like she was a teenager. She had sass and her own kind of style. She got into makeup at a very young age and was amazing at it.
I'm talking about my cousin, Olivia.
I met her when I was five and she was four. We have been each others best friends for years but just recently started drifting off to our own lives and friends. We still talk every now and then but not as much as we used to.
I remember trying to be just like her. She was cool and popular and had a lot of friends. I was quiet and shy and only had a few good friends. She's mainly the reason for my personality and style.
We used to have singing and dancing battles against each other. I would always give her the win because she was better at those kinds of things. She's into more girly things like that. I'd much rather be running around or working out.
When she was in second grade and I was in third grade, We both were getting bullied by this group of girls. We always hung out around the gymnastic bars at recess. The group of girls walked over to us and tried to force us away. I was ready to just give up and let them have it but Olivia stood her ground. I felt inclined to stay next to her so that's what I did. We got into a verbal fight with them. They walked away talking about us but Olivia didn't care. She just carried on like nothing happened.
I wish I could be even remotely as confident as her. I have always walked around the school halls with my head down while she walked around with her head held high.
She was and still is amazing. I'm so glad that I can call her family.
