Volume One: "Green"
The male sat inside of the café, looking outside the window. Vale's streets were filled with citizens roaming the streets and busily entering the shops that lined the many streets. Figures entered the café, but the male didn't seem to care about who entered. He just wanted to see the students at Beacon Academy. It was the day before the school year started for them, so he wanted to at least see them roaming the streets. He was known to easily spot a student or a hunter throughout many crowds of people.
The male let out a sigh, watching the normal residents of Vale pass by the café window. Nearby, the entrance to the bookstore closed behind a woman that stood out from the crowd. His eye's widened instantly. Student, he instantly thought, leaving his seat. He adjusted the collar of his shirt and left the café quietly. The male stopped in the middle of the streets, strangers brushing past him. Vale's streets were starting to clear as the sun was beginning to set.
He squinted his eyes, examining the woman closer than before. She had something on her back, but he couldn't make it out. That's definately a weapon of some sort, he thought. The male stood in place, practically jumping up and down with excitement. He had been waiting all day for the letter from Beacon Academy; he was sure that he had been accepted to Beacon after he had submitted his documents. Rumours of how exactly people were accepted to Beacon was around, but every one of them was different. So, he had assumed he would get a letter at some point.
The student began to walk towards him, and his heart stopped. Why was the student moving towards him out of everyone else? He wasn't even sure that she was walking to him or someone else. The male stood there quietly debating with himself. She approached him with a smile on her face; her dark blue hair swaying behind her.
"Hello! I assume you're one of the kids who applied to Beacon?" the student asked him. He began to sweat nervously, only nodding in response. She smiled, "Well, I've been sent to see if you're Beacon worthy or not!" The male paled.
"How exactly are you going to see that?" he asked. "And who are you?" He placed his hand in his pants' pocket, feeling around for something. The female's eyes narrowed and her smile turned into a wicked grin. Her hair began to blow in the breeze that suddenly appeared.
"We're going to have a little battle of course," she answered, removing her weapon from her back. The girl's weapon was a navy blue spear with white outlines running throughout the blade and handle. He couldn't tell what kind of ranged weapon that spear could transform to, and he wasn't sure if he wanted to find out.
"A battle?" the male questioned, stepping back. She nodded back and her grin grew wider. "Well then..." he trailed off, pulling out his own folded down weapon. The weapon began to unwind, twisting and turning into a staff. The staff was a dark shade of green, almost basil-like. Black circuits ran throughout it, ending at a sharp piece on the end of the staff. He rubbed his fingers along his staff, feeling the patterns embolished in it.
The male began to smile, realizing the streets were now clear of the citizens. The sun had finished setting, no longer casting shadows on the two. It was dark and the only thing that illuminated the two was the soft glow of the moon. He stretched, holding his staff at his side.
"You ready, kid?" the student asked. He responded with a nod, ready to leap at the female. "Begin," she said.
He leapt at her, spinning his staff in between his hands. She stood there, holding her own spear. The male struck down with his staff; it landed with the sharp point landing on the ground. Surprise swept through his body. He was suddenly kicked in the back and he fell to his knees.
She's playing dirty! The male stood up, and swung his staff around his body. It made contact with the girl's side, and she disappeared in a flash. He reacted quicker this time, jumping up and placing his staff vertically. His green hair grew stickier due to him sweating more and more. The male placed his foot on the blunt end of his staff, standing on it on his left leg. He was prepared for the girl to attack the staff and send him to the ground.
Instead, the girl appeared in the middle of thin hair, crashing into him with her spear. He was knocked backward but he grabbed his staff and flipped backwards. The male disconnected his staff and flipped them around. The staff scrambled into two halves and began to make a gun-like shape with each half. He was gripping onto two pistols now and he began to shoot them at the girl. The female stopped for a split second and he shot rapidly. She grunted as she was struck with the blasts from his pistols.
The girl disappeared again, but the male noticed pebbles on the ground being kicked up into the air. He smirked and stopped firing the pistols. His staff reconnected with a quick hand motion and he swung it at the moving pebbles. It made contact with the girl's body again and she let out a gasp. She reappeared on the ground, holding her side. Her spear had been tossed to the side when she had been hit.
He grinned, placing the sharp end of the staff against her chin. Sweat beaded both of their faces, but his face was even more sweatier. He knew that fight had been quick and he wasn't quite sure if she went easy on him or not.
"You win," she groaned. "Looks like you're accepted into Beacon." He smiled and folded his staff back into the smaller shape. The male reached his hand out to her, brushing the sweat off his forehead with his other hand. She took his hand and he pulled her to her feet. She mumbled a thanks and retrieved her spear.
"So, kid, you'll be heading to Beacon tomorrow with the other first years. Hope you're excited because you'll be arriving with the others in an airship," the girl said. He groaned as the girl stored her weapon away.
"Is there anyway else I can arrive? Not a big fan of heights," he said. She shook her head and he groaned louder. "I'm assuming that you're a second year. Am I correct?" the male questioned.
"Correct! The name's Navy and I'll see you at Beacon. First, I need your name, then I can get you situated at Beacon tomorrow," Navy said. His heart pounded. He was actually accepted into Beacon; he could finally become a hunter.
The male breathed in and out. "My name is Basil. Basil Spyce."
