'Where are we going?' I demanded to know while Luce was dragging me behind her. To be honest, I didn't really minded her doing so, as long as she was holding my hand. She turned her head back to me, a few strains of her dark brown hair where covering her face. Still i was able to see her eyes, those big, beautiful, deep and jade green eyes of hers. The kind of green eyes that just ran in her family, her mother, her aunt and her siblings all had the same shade of green eyes. I would have envied her if mine weren't so similar, only that they were more of an emerald shade.
She smiled at me and revealed her fangs. Typically Moroi made sure to hide their fangs because dhampires tended to get nervous at their sight. But to be fair, a human would react much worse.
Most humans didn't even knew we existed! But there were exceptions, the feeders for example, even tho they were so high on vampire endorphins most of the time that they probably barley noticed the fangs. The other kind of humans who knew about us were the Alchemists and they, well, they hated us ALL! They didn't care that we dhampires were only half vampires, most of us had a Moroi dad and a dhampire mom or sometimes the other way around. Originally dhampires came from a time where vampires and humans still interacted with each other but that didn't really happend anymore. They did not differentiated between Moroi, dhampire or even Strigoi, for them we were all just just creatures of evil.
There were, whatsoever, some exceptions. Or at least one most of us knew about.
Adrian and Sydney Ivashkov. A royal Moroi and an ex-Alchemist. Most people called them an abnormality, I, on the other hand, preferred to simply call them my parents. It was not just a quick affair, like the parents of most dhampires had them, no ,my parents were married and actually quite happy. This was also the reason why my name was Ruby Ivashkov, my last name was a royal name and that's probably the weirdest thing for a dhampire.
Luce, who was still dragging me into the woods that surrounded the Academy, was a real royal unlike me. She was Lucinda Andrea Moira Dragomir, the first born child of queen Vasilisa Dragomir and her husband Christian Ozera. It was not unlikely that she would be queen herself one day or at least she would get the title of princess.
But way more important, she was my best friend and so much more. We grew up together, our parents were close friends and we called each others parents our uncle and aunt. So luckily our parents made some arrangements to made sure i would be her guardian when we graduated. They told us that aunt Lissa and our aunt Rose had similar arrangements when they were our age. She and uncle Dimitri were my biggest role models when it came to guardian business, they were literally legends.
Apparently we arrived at our destination because Luce stopped and turned to me, again showing her fangs but i didn't minded, quite the opposite actually, I thought her fangs were sexy in a way. I looked around, finally realizing where she brought me and smiled. We were in the woods near the cabin where we first kissed four years ago. Back then I brought her here to revel my feelings for her and while i tried to stammer the words 'I think i'm in love with you' she took the opportunity and kissed me. She has been my girlfriend ever since and i loved her with my whole heart.
'You know that if you want to make out we could simply go to my dorm room' i said. As one of few female novices I had a room of my own which was quite handy when we needed some privacy.
She cupped my face between her hands and my skin began to prickle under her touch.
'I know but that would be way less fun' she gave me a devils grin.
'But what if we get caught? It's not safe out here, they could find us!'
'That's whats makes it so much fun in the first place. And also, i have good news.'
She pulled her face closer to mine and i felt the warmth of her sweet breath.
'We are going on a little vacation.'
My heart skipped a beat. What on earth did she mean with vacation? Christmas wasn't for another two months, so we had no reason to visit our parents. Maybe she was planning on escaping the school like her mother and Rose once did? Or maybe she planned a shopping trip to one of the malls for the weekend?
When she saw the questions and the slight hinch of panic in my eyes she bursted into laughter.
'You look like I'm plotting something big and evil'
'I don't know, are you?' I asked cautiously.
'Well, I have to admit it is something big. Mom is worried that some of the important Royals in Europe stop feeling connected to the court and thought it might be a good idea to visit some of them. You know, like an official state visit. Unfortunately she is so wrapped up in all sorts of things right now that she can't go, so she decided to sent me as an ambassador. Of course I can't go all by myself for security reasons, two guardians, one from school and one from court, are coming with me. And since you're going to be my guardian one day and this would be a great learning opportunity I made sure that you could come too. So on Friday we'll fly to Germany and stay there for a whole week.'
